So, Paris has an Eiffel Tower.

Because Paris has an Eiffel Tower, you have this edition of Michigan Travel Tips, which is inspired by that mentioned Eiffel Tower, and this is an edition of Michigan Travel Tips that combines a bit of imagination with facts and real places.

Let us pretend that it is July 1, 2010, and you are out on a July 4th vacation and are thinking about more places where you can go, and your plans are made while you sit near that mentioned Eiffel Tower of Paris, not a bad place to be.

While looking at the Eiffel Tower, you remember some facts and stories.

There is a place called Rogers City in Michigan, and it is in Presque Isle County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.  At Rogers City is a statue in the marina area that was made by Moran Iron Works and depicts the torch of the Statue of Liberty, the real statue of which is at Ellis Island of New York City, New York.  You remember that the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States of America by the people of France, and the statue was given to commemorate the one-hundred-year anniversary of the creation of The Declaration of Independence and the creation of the country known as the United States of America.

Now, where should you go for the July 4th holiday?  We will find out after we hear a word from our sponsor.

Advertisement: The commercial in this edition of Michigan Travel Tips urges you to get a copy of Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, which is a book written by Mark R. Levin.  This book will help you understand better what Barack Obama is--who is purposely hurting the country, even though he is the president of the country--but the book is really about enslavers--bad politicians--who do not believe in the values of The U.S. Constitution and how The U.S. Constitution is designed to limit the power of the government, especially a dictatorship, over the individual (the citizen).  Remember: In the United States of America, it is the individuals who own the government and not the government that owns the citizens, the latter of which is what Barack Obama wants and is pushing for.

Well, that finishes the commercial, and that commercial makes no money for me or for you, since it is a "sustainer."

You have a place in mind to go for the July 4th holiday, but it does not necessarily mean that you will get there, since there is so much to see in Michigan, and while you make the trip to the place, you could end up seeing other places along the way and run out of time.  The place is the Children's Museum in Detroit (in Detroit of Wayne County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan).  That museum was opened up again--after having been closed for a while--on the weekend of Saturday, June 26, 2010.  The museum was originally opened in 1917, and for much of the time between 1925 and today, it was operated by the Detroit Board of Education, and today it is a museum that is now partnered with the Detroit Science Center.  Visitors to the Children's Museum see items that make up about 100,000 exhibit items in the collection, some of which are dinosaur bones and dolls.

You decide to go to your car, sit in the driver's seat, and look at some brochures.  You turn on the radio, and you happen to catch an audio cut of Barack Obama, which came out of a speech that he gave at the American University School of International Service on the morning of June 1, 2010:
Here was what you heard: "...A young woman named Emma Lazarus, whose own family fled persecution from Europe generations earlier, took up the cause of these new immigrants. Although she was a poet, she spent much of her time for better health care and housing for the new comers. Inspired by what she saw and heard, she wrote down her thoughts and donated a piece of work to help pay for the construction of a new statue, the Statue of Liberty, which actually was funded in part by small donations from people across America...." and "...Years before the statue was built, years it would be seen by throngs of immigrants, training their necks skyward at the end of a long and brutal voyage, years before it would come to symbolize everything that we cherish, she imagined what it would mean. She imagined the sight of a giant statue at the entry point of a great nation, but, unlike the great monuments of the past, this would not signal an empire. Instead, it would signal one's arrival to a place of opportunity and refuge...."
Then you remember what you had learned earlier.  The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the people of the United States of America from the people of France.  You also remember the "she" referred to is Emma Lazarus, who, when the Statue of Liberty was to be given to the country, had donated a poem that could be used to raise money to make a pedestal for the statue, and the poem was "The New Colossus, which, in 1903, was engraved on a plaque that got mounted in the pedestal.  And you remember the statue was not related to immigration but was related to the idea that the country was where oppressed people could find a place of "liberty."

You look up and wonder.  Is there a "Big Boy" restaurant in this town?  If there is, there will be a statue of one of the American symbols of business and commerce and capitalism--"Big Boy."

You glance down at the car seat and see a brochure for a tourist attraction that you picked up a state-run Welcome Center.  The brochure is for the Mackinaw Mining Co., a little business located near Fort Michilimackinac, which is at Mackinaw City (at the Straits of Mackinac in the Lower Peninsula).  It is a place where you can go down five-hundred feet in to the Earth and do some mining for gold, and it is certainly a place that is aimed at children.  The place is a private business, which is like so many private businesses in the state that will be hurt by Barack Obama's Marxist government policies in the near future, such as Da Yoopers Tourist Trap and Museum, which is near Ishpeming (in Marquette County of the Upper Peninsula) and the many little ice-cream shops run by families that you have seen on your travels over the years.  You notice on the brochure that "Michilimackinac" is spelled incorrectly--the brochure having "Michilimackanac."

You are about to change the radio station, when you hear some more disturbing audio.  On June 30, 2010, the U.S. Senate confirmation hearings designed to determine whether or not Elena Kagan would become a U.S. Supreme Court Justice were going on.  At one point, you heard audio of an exchange of dialogue between U.S. Senator Tom Coburn and Elena Kagan, and here is some of what you hear:
Elena Kagan (who was answering the question about whether or not a person has a natural right to use arms or weapons for self-preservation and self-defense): "Senator Coburn, to, to be honest with you, I, I don't have a view of what are natural rights' independent of The Constitution, and my job as a justice will be to enforce and defend The Constitution and other laws of the United States."
Tom Coburn: "So, so you wouldn't embrace what The Declaration of Independence says that we have certain God-given inalienable rights that aren't given in The Constitution, that are ours alone, and that the government doesn't give to us?"
Elena Kagan: "Senator Coburn, I believe that The Constitution is an extraordinary document, and I'm saying, I do not believe that there are rights preexisting The Constitution and the law.' But my job as a justice is to enforce The Constitution and the laws...."
Being a person who is not stupid about life, you know and realize Elena Kagan is a person who would be a terrible person to be a judge of any type, and then you hear yet another piece of audio:
Elena Kagan (who was answering the question as to whether or not she--not as a judge--believed there are "inalienable rights" like those that are the basis for the government of the United States of America: "Senator Coburn, I, I think that the question of what I believe as to what people's rights are outside The Constitution and the laws, that you should not want me to act in any way on such a belief...."
Tom Coburn: "...I would want you to always act on the basis of the belief of what our Declaration of Independence says."
Elena Kagan: "I, I think you should want me to act on the basis of law, and, ah, and that is what I have upheld to do if I'm fortunate enough to be confirmed is to act on the basis of law, which is the constitutions and the statutes of the United States...."

Promotional announcement: The Landmark Legal Foundation is made up of lawyers, such as Mark R. Levin (of The Mark Levin Show, a nationally syndicated radio show), who fight in court cases against those who do not uphold The U.S. Constitution and the rule of law for the country, and the Landmark Legal Foundation fights for the rights of the individual and against Marxists, communists, and the like.  In this day and age when Barack Obama, who I am convinced has a truly highly ill mind, is going against the rules of the country while pursuing a goal--I believe--to hurt the country and remake it or destroy it, I believe the Landmark Legal Foundation needs your help desperately; for example, retired lawyers who want to protect the country should consider donating time to helping the Landmark Legal Foundation.  I urge you to avoid making any donations to entities to promote manmade global warming or climate change and make a donation to the Landmark Legal Foundation instead (by the way, you should look into supporting the Heritage Foundation).

You are packing up the brochers, when you happen to hear audio cuts of statements made by J. Christian Adams to Megyn Kelly on the Fox News Channel on June 30, 2010, and the material relates to a court case in which members of the New Black Panther Party--a group of radical blacks, who look like thugs on a regular basis--intimidated voters in Philadelphia on November 4, 2008, an incident that was recorded on video and shown publicly, and a part of what happened during the case is the defendants did not show up in court to defend themselves and the court pronounced a default judgement (which is a judgement in which, for example, defendants do not challenge a case).  J. Christian Adams was involved in the case at the Department of Justice during the U.S. President George W. Bush administration, and he was at the Department of Justice in the spring of 2009 during the U.S. President Barack Obama administration when the case, though a verdict had been made, was dropped, and J. Christian Adams recently resigned from the Department of Justice because of things that were going on in the department.  Some of the things that J. Christian Adams said were, "Sure, well. I mean, what happened was--and it's been testimony--we were ordered to dismiss the case. We, we were told drop charges against the New Black Panther Party" and "Well, you know, the Department has said that the facts and the law don't support going forward on the case. Now, obviously, that's false. Anyone with any eyes can see that the facts and the law would support this case. Ah, there's video."  And you think and then remember you saw the video some time ago, and you then think, during the upcoming election, more people around the country, such as small-in-stature women and elderly persons, will very likely see thugs, like members of the New Black Panther Party of the November 2008 incident, at polling places, intimidating people and maybe forcing some people not to vote, and you realize the Barack Obama administration wants such lawless and thuggish behavior to exist.  ["FNC Exclusive: Former DOJ Attorney Discusses New Black Panther Party Voter Intimidation Case." FOXNews.com, 30 June 2010. On at least Friday, June 2, 2010, the interview was available on YouTube in parts, such as "Part 1 DOJ Lawyer J. Christian Adams who quit over Black Panther voter intimidation case.mp4".]
(To see more statements made by J. Christian Adams, you are strongly urged to see the document entitled Justice for All?: The Rules are Changing Under Barack Obama, which can be reached by using this link: Justice.)

You look all around you.  You see what Michigan physically looks like, and it looks no different, generally speaking, than it did a few days ago, a few weeks ago, or a few years ago.  But Michigan is different in that is it now being threatened by communists and socialists and other ill-minded people, especially Barack Obama, who is not simply a communist or socialist who wishes to make the United States of America some type of socialist-type country but is also a racist--a man who hates "whites"--who likes to hurt people and wants to hurt most of the people of the United States of America, and Michigan is different since Barack Obama and his followers have several times at least violated procedures of The U.S. Constitution and have enacted laws that a person can expect a communist dictator to enact.

Yes, you see big trouble ahead for Michigan and the United States of America.

So, you close the door of the car.  It is time to leave Paris--Paris, Michigan.  Paris is in Mecosta County of the Lower Peninsula.  You glance at the Eiffel Tower one more time.

P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslaver"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children).  (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)
