I have to start out this edition of Television History and Trivia with an editorial about Daylight Savings Time.  Throughout the year, most people work and have to work inside and out of the sun, which means they are not getting the benefits of sunshine (such as psychological benefits), but, of course, you probably have heard the people who say that being in the sun can lead to cancer--especially skin cancer, as usually reported--but at least some sunshine on the body is good, and "man" has been out in the sun for centuries and centuries, and a person can get skin cancer in ways unrelated to the sun.  A person's having the ability for at least few months of the year--basically, summertime--to get off work and get a little more sunshine in the evening is good for the person, and the evening warmth does not hurt.  Keep in mind that the morning--even in the summer--can be cooler than the evening (following hours of the sun warming the day), so in the morning, a person may be more covered up than in the evening (after, for example, 5:00 p.m., when the work time can be done).  The extra evening sun for a few months of the year allows people to have more relaxation time with the sun out.  And, really, the two transition times of the year do not kill people, and, all the time, people are flying in planes and dealing with the effects of time change, sometimes three time zones, covering more than one hour of change.  No real big hardship is created by the two time adjustments each year.  In addition, morning dew--not yet taken away by the sun in the morning--can hinder outdoor things and fun, and, really, people are not in the habit in getting outdoor activities going in the early morning, even when on vacation, since, for instance, the evening previous might have been a late affair, and a person has to get up to speed in the morning hours, when extra light from the sun would be wasted.  I must report that, for about 25 years, I reported on travel and traveling on radio stations in Michigan, such as on the three big summer holidays, when I could work for about 50 hours in four days, and a lot of traffic can be on the roads on the final day and evening of a summer holiday or on a Sunday of a regular weekend, and it is better if the travelers have more light with them to get home, trips during which the end might come at nine or ten in the evening, and in this day and age of too-bright headlights, especially for drivers seeing on-coming traffic on two-lane roads, it is better to have less time driving in darkness with too-bright headlights up ahead--a lot of too-bright headlights.  I think Daylight Savings Time is fine.

Well, let me see what is in my files.  For decades, maybe since the 1990s, I have had the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp listed in my files, but I have never talked about it as a place to see in an edition of Michigan Travel Tips, since it really is not a place like a museum or a fun park.  For a bunch of decades, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp has been place for children to get more education in music and such through summer courses or training.  The place does have a band shell in which performances can be given, but that is not a place that you can regularly be at.  I make this note.  I recently discovered--having not had the information in my files--that the place has, in essence, a radio station, and it is referred to as Blue Lake Public Radio, and, really, it seems to be available on two radio channels--90.3 FM (WBLV-FM) and 88.9 FM (WBLU-FM) in the general Twin Lake area of Michigan or, more generally, the Muskegon area of Michigan, which is related to Muskegon County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.  While traveling in the general Muskegon area, you might come across the station on your radio, maybe while having lunch at a park.  I know not how far a reach the radio signal has, but it seems very likely that it should reach Lake Michigan beaches of the Muskegon area.  I make my note about the radio station, since I put on a new video on "The Hologlobe Channel" of YouTube recently, and it is about WAYN-AM 860 of Wayne State University in the first half or so of the 1970s.  By the way, that radio station in the early 1970s only had a 100-milliwatt transmitter (third stage), the maximum amount allowed by the FCC at the time.  The video shows off radio jingles for the radio station in the early 1970s, and it has several groups presented, and it also has two demo recordings of the Top 40 format used at the station, one of which was announced by Gary Bridges (in 1971) and one of which was announced by me (in 1976).  It is some old-time radio history of Wayne State University.  Of course, Blue Lake Public Radio is not old-time radio, but it probably plays some old music, such as classical-music selections, and if you are traveling in the Muskegon area, you might think about tuning in.

Why might you go or be to the Muskegon area?  In the Muskegon area, there is the place called Muskegon Community College, and it has the Carr-Fles Planetarium.  The current season has the place open to present free shows on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m..  I have a wonder.  I wonder if people at the place are talking about or will talk when you are at the place things discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope recently.  That telescope is out in space.  The most recently fired up big-deal observatory is the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, which is located on land in Chile of South America.  It has uncovered some big things.  I have heard it suggested that the big-deal telescope places are hinting that the simple Big Bang Theory of our universe is at least somewhat defected, based on new observations.  But that is not a matter for here.  Also at Muskegon is the Muskegon Museum of Art, and from October 2, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the special exhibition at that place is called "Art Nouveau: Age of Elegance."  The Muskegon Museum of Art is open for free on Thursdays from eleven to eight, and it is open, generally speaking, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from eleven to five, and one Saturday of each month has a no general admission policy.  Oh, the free days are tied to moneys presented to the museum by the Meijer Foundation and Howmet Aerospace.  In addition, I report--since winter is about here--Muskegon has a place called the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, which is open throughout the year.  Mostly throughout the year, it is open from ten or eleven in the morning to five in the afternoon, but, for instance, some Saturdays of the year have longer hours, such as from ten o'clock to ten o'clock.  Image yourself flying down the wheel luge at that place--with headphones on or in--listening to a presentation of Clair de Lune--and not Clair da Luge.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

I happen to be a television historian--one of the best in the country, having some 53 years of  work in the field, and I have a bit about television here.  I do not watch the newscasts of the broadcast networks, unless I am in the process of seeing what crap and lies that they are presenting to viewers.  On October 26, 2025, while running through the channels up north in Michigan [see: Television History and Trivia #259 by hitting this T.H.A.T. #259 link to see what channels I was running through.], I ended up for a moment on the famous [Ha!] CBS Evening News.  I learned right then that the average cost of a new car in the United States of America has now reached $50,000.00   Holy crap!  That is a big cost.  Recently, I had to replace two tire pressure sensors in a used vehicle, and the cost reach about $51.00 for each and a bit more for installation.  For decades, people got along with out tire-pressure sensors.  Boy, if you get a used car for a son or a daughter, and then a tire-pressure sensor goes bad or if some sort of go bad at the same time, the son or the daughter can end up with an unexpected big expense, and if all four sensors (if a vehicle with four wheels) get changed--a person can be looking at some $300.00-plus in expenses.  What crap that is!  Sensors seem to have a life span of about ten years, so keep that in mind.
[Note: I made--quickly--a trial "bead breaker" recently, but the design did not work well, so I will try again in the near future, probably next summer, and I made it quickly since I was still working on a house and yard that had been affected by the big ice storm in Presque Isle Country of late-March 2025--I had to rebuild, for one, an eaves area of a house and do shingling work.  I report that a magazine called Michigan Country Lines (from Presque Isle Electric & Gas coop for September 2025) noted that the entity had to replace some 2,800 telephone poles because the ice storm and replace some 3,800 miles of electricity line and some 900 transformers.  I had fourteen downed or partially downed trees in the yard proper to deal with, such as two trees on the house, and damage to things on the property proper, and I left the many downed trees in the outlots alone, except for some that I used to make a scaffolding unit, which helped me in repairing the house.]
[Note: The next edition of Michigan Travel Tips will be a special edition, having talk about tire-pressure sensors, and I will have information about a new video that I made about the ice storm--something on "The Hologlobe Press" channel on YouTube.]

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

    Stay well!
