- - - Travel Thoughts for Everyone - - -
I began to put together a file of places to see in Michigan in 1981 or so, when I was an employee of Michigan AAA (as it was known informally at the time) [Note: It later became informally known as AAA Michigan, as it is today.]. I was doing radio reports about places to see in Michigan, and the reports were called "Mini Tours." Since I started collecting information about places, things and places have come and gone and some have things and places have gone through changes, such as expansion or change of location. I cannot keep up on a day-to-day basis all the changes that take place, but when I do get around to writing a Michigan Travel Tips document for a month, I can come across changes. Actually, in each document, I am always reporting changes, and this document shows some more.
When I write editions of Michigan Travel Tips, I discover good news usually and bad news some times. Recently, I discovered that the Sunset Drive-In at Hartford, Michigan, closed down in 2024, and that is some bad news. But--but--I see the Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater of Honor, Michigan, is still flashing the flicks on the big outdoor screen, which has had some updating from time to time since July 1953, when the place was opened up for the first time Here, I simply note that he Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater still exists at 9813 Honor Road, and, from time to time, there are the special events there, such as the Second Annual Trunk and Treat event of October 11, 2025. The place might be a nice place to spend some time on a color-touring weekend in the general Traverse City area.
In my files is a listing for the Lincoln Park Historical Museum, Lincoln Park (of Wayne County in the Lower Peninsula), and, when I made the starting listing, the museum had no video presentation about the museum that people could see, such as through YouTube. I recently discovered the museum has a video on YouTube that runs about one hour and eighteen minutes. It is hosted by Tom Karnes (the mayor of the city at the time that the video was made) and Jeff Day (the curator of the museum). Through the video, a person can see an overview of what the museum is, having military items, information about Indians, a vault (once used for storing valuables when the building was used as a Post Office, which had begun in 1939), a telephone operator station, a player piano, stone tools, and various old photographs. Now, I have some bad news. I am a bit disappointed in the presentation, having a background in radio and television. The video needs better editing. It has out-of-focus spots at times and other bad shots, and there are points in the video where the guys are standing blank (spots that should have been edited out), and there are too many off-mic moments. With that in your mind, I tell you that the quality of the video is no reason not to see the Lincoln Park Historical Museum, which is only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Mark down the address--1335 Southfield Road. And think about the museum and maybe the Goodell School bell out front, which is sometimes rung.
Warning announcement! Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips. The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law." Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia." When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah). By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really. Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.
Over the last couple years--since Russia attacked Ukraine--I have regularly looked at videos on YouTube that show, for one, Ukrainian drones blowing up Russian tanks, such as the T80-type tanks. It is good to see those tanks blowing up. I learn from time to time about places to see in Michigan through newspapers, even the socialistic and communistic Detroit Free Press. On September 10, 2025, the edition of the Detroit Free Press had an article called "Decades after war, U.S. still looking for those left behind" [Witsil, Frank. "Decades after war, U.S. still looking for those left behind." Detroit Free Press, 10 September 2025, pp. 4A and 6A.]. Almost never do I get inspiration for a short piece in a Michigan Travel Tips document around the time that I see something in a newspaper, such as the Detroit Free Press. But, given the war related to Ukraine and Russia is currently on and the war related to Israel and shits (who are like Russian soldiers) is also going on, I have to note that, with the article in the Detroit Free Press, there was an image of an old U.S. tank, which was a "M60"-type tank of the 1950s. I have now noted that it exists as something to see, and it is now in my files of places of things to see in Michigan. The tank is located at the VFW Post 9885, Chapter 387, which is at 644 North Hix Road in Westland of Wayne County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
And I finally get around to this subject, which I learned about somewhere, such as through television or radio, though the Detroit Free Press did cover the subject. The Detroit Artists Market (at 4719 Woodward Avenue) is open again, after having been shut down by flooding earlier in the year. I make the mention as only a mention, since it is a tiny subject in my video (at "The Hologlobe Press" channel on YouTube) that is called Linked--"The Shanghai Cobra", Charlie Chan, KQ2XBB, R.E.T.S., Modern Music Company, Music by Choice, and the Electronics Institute. In the video, I mention a bit of history about the building that is used by the Detroit Artists Market today.
