So, what did you do on this past Labor Day (September 1, 2025), especially in the morning?  For one, I did some outside painting-related work, getting ready for winter.  Meanwhile, some 45-minutes driving time away, thousands of persons were taking part in another Labor Day Bridge Walk at the famous Mackinac Bridge (Mackinaw City/St. Ignace, Michigan).  I looked in on the walk a few times by going to the camera shots available on the Internet from the Mackinac Bridge Authority.  In the morning, some people were at Cheboygan, and they were seeing the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile, and, in the morning, I had plans to see the "hotdog" vehicle in the early afternoon, given the "hotdog" vehicle was scheduled to be at Cheboygan till 3:00 p.m. (as had been noted in an edition of the local Cheboygan newspaper).  I got to Cheboygan at about 1:45 p.m..  I went to the location (near the Cheboygan Opera House) where the "hotdog" vehicle was supposed to be.  I saw no crowd, even a small crowd, which might be surrounding something special.  I saw no "hotdog" vehicle.  I drove south down the main street and searched the downtown business area, especially a park near the post office.  I then went farther south to the area where, for example, there is a shopping center with Family Fair (a supermarket).  I then went north--back through downtown--to check out Gordon Turner Park, which is at the waterfront.  I was finding no evidence of the famous "hotdog" vehicle.  I then went to the local police station, and it was closed.  A guy in the lobby area said that the "hotdog" vehicle was out in the parking lot a little while ago.  I headed south again and went to the County Sheriff's Office building, and I found a sheriff's deputy sitting in a vehicle.  He had seen no "hotdog" vehicle.  I went to the State Police building, which was closed, as I had expected it to be, but I happened to catch a trooper sitting in a police car, and he said that he was unaware that the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile was even scheduled to be in town.  And so I found no "hotdog" vehicle, and that was a bit disappointing since I had planned to shoot some photographs that might get used in a video for The Hologlobe Press channel on YouTube.  Where did the "hotdog" vehicle?  It seems it probably left early.  It may have been taken away early since not many people were showing up.  That is not surprising since thousands and thousands of persons were at the bridge walk, some fifteen-minutes driving time away, and when they are done with the walk, most make the drive home, such as the long drive back to the Detroit area (which can run seven hours or so).  I get the feeling the visit was poorly advertised, and maybe the newspaper had the wrong time for viewing listed.  Why was the "hotdog" vehicle scheduled for Cheboygan on Labor Day, when, for example, many tourists head back home to southern Lower Michigan in late morning or midday and are in no mood for more visits to things?  While in Cheboygan in the afternoon on Labor Day, I picked up some grinding discs (which had been on order) at a store, and that was that, and I headed home to do more outside work--on a labor day.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

By the way, Gordon Turner Park, which is at Cheboygan, is one of those parks that can be found in cities and towns along the Great Lakes water system where people might have lunch, while using picnic table or while sitting in vehicles.  I have--several times--had lunch while sitting in a vehicle at Gordon Turner Park.  I have done the same thing at a park at Alpena, which is farther south in Lower Michigan.  I have not done the same at a place between Alpena and Cheboygan--Rogers City (the marina area). When color season comes in middle and late September for Rogers City, Alpena, and Cheboygan, you might think about having lunch at the lake-view places, which are related to northern Lake Huron.  I wonder if the color season will be slightly delayed this season, given the summer has been warmer than usual (it seems), and if the fall is warmer than usual, it probably will be delayed a bit.

My files of places to see in Michigan exist on--mostly--a computer, specifically in WordPerfect (the writing program) electronic files; the files had started out in the very early 1980s on three-inch-by-five-inch index cards, which had been used during my early days at AAA Michigan (Michigan AAA then) to do reports on radio stations in the Detroit area about places to see in Michigan.  Today, the first file is "Lp-Tour1" (because it was started with the MS-DOS naming system of up to eight characters at most for an electronic file).  The last entry in the file is for "Fort Custer Recreation Area," which is located at Augusta of Kalamazoo County of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.  Originally, the place was not part of the index-card library, and it looks as if the first information about the place was set up in "Lp-Tour1" in 2003, when the place had, for example, 217 campsites and a number rental cabins, and it was a place to hike and fish and snowshoe and boat and do more.  Today, the place exists on 3,033 acres of land, and it is related to the State of Michigan park system, and it is open throughout the year.  I went to the website for the place, and it noted that soon the place will have "electric track chairs."  They may already exist at the park, given the website may not be updated well.  Those "electric track chairs"--used on a first-come-first-serve-basis and for no charge--are one person small vehicles that have "tracks" (wheel systems) like tanks and bulldozers.  They are designed to take on rough terrain, stuff that is not officially park of the 40 miles of regular trails.  The history of the recreation area goes back to 1917 when it began to be use as a place for military train, but I do not know if it was used to train tank crews--it probably was not.  However, yet today, the operators of the Fort Custer Recreation Area do note that it is possible--yet possible--that a person could run across unexpectedly live ammunition, and there are rules that a person should learn before traveling around in the recreation area, such as to do hunting, which the park has rules about.  Oh, I looked at the website, and I did not notice any big event scheduled for the recreation area, such as that which a person might travel 200 miles to see or take part in, over the next month or so; I am talking about something like a big fall festival, which might last a few days.  However, color season is coming soon, and it could be a nice place at which to see the trees in yellows and reds and such.  The Fort Custer Recreation Area is officially located at 5163 Fort Custer Road, as it has been for decades.  On a map, look for land between about Battle Creek and Kalamazoo and a small lake system, which includes Lawler Lake, Whitford Lake, and Jackson Hole Lake.  Hold it!  "Jackson Hole Lake" makes me think the place is out west in the United State of America, such as in Oklahoma, but the recreation area is indeed in western Lower Michigan.

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

    Stay well!
