So the burning trees and bushes and all in Canada are still showing up in the form of smoke and ash and carbon dioxide and whatever in parts of the United States of America.  That is what happens with nature.  Things get old and dry out, and then, for example, when lightning strikes, you can end up with fires.  Man can control the fires somewhat by removing dead plants and by using the dead plants, such as the wood of trees.  Some places in the world have jackass people who feel that it is wrong to harvest and clear woods and such.  They are crappy people who can get animals and people hurt through fire and smoke.  I am not one of them.  Earlier this year, I bought a new Stihl MS-216 C-M chainsaw so that a fallen tree could be cut up where I live a portion of each year.  I already had a Stihl 017, which had been made in about 1995, but I needed the "261" (which had an 18-inch bar).  I have some good news.  On July 8, 2023, I went to a community garage sale.  Well, actually I went to drop off stuff for the sale on July 6, 2023, and July 7, 2023, and I saw that a Stihl KM-90r with a chainsaw attachment was going to be for sale on July 8, 2023, for $50.00.  The sale was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 8, 2023, but I got there at 7:55 a.m., and there was nobody else there then.  You should be able to guess that I was first in line for the sale, and I did get the "KM-90r" unit (with the chainsaw attachment (HT-KM)), which was a used machine but was a used machine that had seen little action (as I have been able to determine).  Now, I have three gas-powered chainsaws, and I happen to have an old electric chainsaw (not one with a battery).  I am glad none of the chainsaws that I have have battery systems, since, for example, I may only use the KM-90r every so often, such as every so many years, and if I had a battery-based model, I would have to waste time charging the battery every couple months, and maybe the battery would be bad by the time that I really needed it.  So I have the tools to cut up trees, and the cut-up material can be used for making something or can be burned, and I can sort of help save animals from a death from fire, such as the chipmunks that I have around, even the ones that had recently filled up the duct area of the GMC 2014 Terrain that I drive with pine needles and other junk, which caused the heating and air-conditioning system to run like crap [Note: I had to remove the blower and clean out duct area.].  With the three gas-powered chainsaws, I will save the world by cutting up trees when I have to and when I should!  And so goes life!  Oh, hold it!  The garage sale on July 8, 2023, was held inside a firefighter station or fire station, and some money raised was going to support the fire department.  Yes, when you travel in Michigan, feel glad I am cutting up dead trees and fallen trees with gas-powered chainsaws and saving some beautify scenery for you to see.

For a little over 30 years, starting in 1965, AAA Michigan ran "Bring 'em Back Alive" Holiday News Services, and what was done during those events covering the three big summer holidays of a year was AAA Michigan gathered a staff of writers and broadcasters and presented radio reports to radio stations in all over Michigan, and the reports had traffic information and tourism information, and I did a lot of broadcasting and writing for the services.  For a while--late in the period, such as in the 1990s--I did the writing for all the reports presented to radio stations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and I did most of the news gathering.  To learn how tourism was going in the region, I telephoned tourist attractions in the Upper Peninsula, and I talked with owners and staffers of places, such as museums and campgrounds.  One of the people with whom I regularly talked was Tom Gronback of Northland Outfitters of Germfask (of Schoolcraft County), Michigan.  Recently, I decided to see what was happening with Northland Outfitters, aware Tom Gronback was no longer associated with the place (having left in 2000).  The place is still in business at Germfask and along the Manistique River.  Today, the place is known formally as Northland Outfitters Campground and Canoe/Kayak Livery.  It has cabins to rent, and it had RV sites to rent, and it has tent sites to rent, and it has small boats to rent, and it has a boat launch, and it has a volleyball area, and it has more.  The website hints that there have been movie nights, but they seem to be passé at the moment.  So it look as if the lack of tourism at Northland Outfitters during the time of COVID-19 did not harm the place greatly and put it out of business, so it is still one of the places to spend time in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

My files of places to see in Michigan still have entries for places that no longer exist--times change; I note in my files that the places are closed, or when looking for places to talk about, I look to see if the places are open or when they closed.  One place, which was opened in 1986 by Kathy and Charlie Nye, that no longer exists is Nye Vegetable Farm, which was in the St. Ignace area of Mackinaw County of the Upper Peninsula.  On June 23, 2023, I found something associated with the Nye Vegetable Farm for sale on eBay.  I found that there was a cookbook (a ring-binder-like thing) called Kathy's Kountry Kitchen for sale.  I never had the cookbook reported in my files.  And so it goes!  Oh, the cookbook was listed at $15.00 on eBay.

Hey, it seems Nye Vegetable Farm never had any ties to Nye's Apple Barn (or whatever it was called in the past), which has been located in the St. Joseph area of Michigan (of Berrien County of the Lower Peninsula) since at least since the late 1800s.  I have found that Nye Apple Barn, where people have been able to get cider and apples in the fall for years, was open for business in the fall of 2022, so at the moment, I can report that Nye Apple Barn will probably be open this coming fall.  Since Nye Apple Barn (or maybe Nye Apple Farm) was open at St. Joseph in the middle of the 1900s or late in the early 1900s, maybe my mother visited the place when she was a girl, since she grew up in St. Joseph in the 1930s and 1940s; the farm was only a few miles away from Kingsley Avenue, where she lived.  The address for Nye Apple Barn has been for years--3151 Niles Road.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

Last month, a friend of mine and I were talking with someone, and we got on the subject of big things made over the years by Moran Iron Works or the Industrial Arts Institute (a welding school that was, in essence, started by the Moran family, especially Tom Moran) for the 4th of July Parades at Onaway, Michigan, and while talking, my friend and I reported information about some of the big things, such as the "Iron Man" head (based on the character from comic books and movies).  We also talked about Da Yoopers (fully known as Da Yoopers Tourist Trap and Museum), and, there, people can yet see today two of the items made for parades at Onaway, and they are "Big Gus" (the big chainsaw) and "Big Ernie" (the big rifle).  A few days later, I went to the website for Da Yoopers, and I learned something.  The place also has something called "Gravel Gertie."  The website noted--"Here's our latest addition, Gravel Gertie, The Largest Motorized Tricycle in Michigan and possibly the largest in the world!  Our motorized Tricycle was designed by Dennis Takalo of Skandia, MI.  Additional features were added by Ron Giannunzio of Big Bay, MI....".  This year, I was able to attend the 4th of July Parade at Onaway.  The iron sculpture, which was made by people at the Industrial Arts Institute was a big bulldog, and I mean it was about five-feet high or so.  I could not measure it while it was being paraded past me on a trailer while I was taking photographs of it.  In addition, I did not notice a sign about it that was attached to it.  It seems very likely if you pass through Onaway, you will see it along--I will say--the main road through town.  Watch for it!

Here, I have a note--maybe about an open thing.  For a number of years, Territorial Park of Monroe County was where people found a place called the Martha Barker Country Store Museum, which was located at 3815 North Custer Road, Monroe; the store was closed down in about 2018.  Officially, the store was in a place that had been the site for a school for about 100 years.  Recently, it was being reported that the school building--which had ties sort of to the Christopher McDowell Papermill of the early late 1880s--might be opened as a visitor center at the park in the spring of 2023.  By the way, also at the park is a place called the Navarre Trading House.  If you happen to get to Territorial Park of Monroe over the next few months, you might find that the building called informally the "Papermill School" building is now a visitor center, but, at the moment, I can only report that the building still exists and can be seen at least from the outside.  You will find a historical marker in the area that gives a quick story of the Christopher McDowell Papermill, which was a supplier of paper for newspapers in the middle of the 1800s (roughly).

I now remind you--while I sort of have my new (but used) Stihl KM-90r in hand--that I have a document on the Internet that shows the idiocy of the manmade global climate change push, and the document can be reached through this Countdown link.  The document is about the prediction made in 2018 that notes that the planet will be done for in 12 years, and since it is now 2023, the planet will be done for in seven years.  It is all crap from progressives and communists and socialists and the like.  I note here that on the morning of July 10, 2023, I got exposed to an article called "NBC meteorologist cites controversial UN study claiming extreme heat will make US south unlivable for humans" (which was from Fox News, was written by Yael Halon, and was posted o the Internet on July 9, 2023, at 7:30 p.m.).  The article, for one, states that Angie Lassman passed along information that is linked to the United Nations that reports that parts of the south, such as Alabama and Louisiana, will be bad places to live by 2070.  Hey, is not the planet supposed to be done for in seven years?  The "2070" is useless stuff, as is Angie Lassman!  If you travel in Michigan and see me cutting up some trees, wave, because I am saving the planet!

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.

    Stay well!

    Victor
