- - - Travel Thoughts for Everyone - - -

From August 1976 to April 2003, I was a regular employee at AAA Michigan (or Michigan AAA), and I worked in the broadcast area of the company (which was located in Dearborn, Michigan), and what I did over the years was write and broadcast through the company on radio stations all over the State of Michigan.  During my time at the company, tourism was important in the state, and the company had news services for radio stations offering traffic information and tourism information, and the company was big on promoting safe driving so that people would travel and spend money on tourism.  By the late 1990s, the company was abandoning in earnest promoting safe driving (dropping the "Bring 'em Back Alive" theme) and promoting tourism (but so it goes with the ignorant young generation).  After I was fired from the company, I started up a website, and soon that website was providing travel information to readers, or it had suggestions about places to see in Michigan, such as while on long vacations.  Over the years, I have added travel-related news to my documents--things that could be talked about while traveling on long drives in the state but not only on long drives.  Now, it is commonplace for me to give in Michigan Travel Tips documents information about places to see in Michigan and about tourism-related news, especially that which could affect tourism business in the near future and beyond, and this edition follows that format.

Michigan has a lot of tiny businesses and museums and tourist attractions, the number of which escapes me, and many of the businesses stay afloat because of the summer tourist season, and if the tourism season has a bad time, such as because of a COVID-19-like mess, then things go to pot or places shut down.  Based on what is happening around the country, I can see that the future of tourism in Michigan and other states could easily fall off in the near future, because the numbers of travelers will go down.  Consider what is happening in California.  On August 25, 2022, a government body called the California Air Resources Board set down a rules that, for one, will stop the sale of new gas-powered-type vehicles by 2035, and up to that time, no nuclear power plant will probably be built to help create more electricity, and it can take a decade or more to get a nuclear power plant built and put in operation or it could take longer.  In recent years, some states have been working to shut down electricity-generation plants using coal, and some states, such as Michigan, have been working to shut down hydro-electric generating units or plants.  Where is the electricity for electric vehicles (EVs) and everything else going to come from?  While California switches to only having electric power come from so-called renewable sources, such as wind turbines and solar panels, and numbers of gasoline-type stations will shut down, and that will cause people from other states to not travel more and more by vehicle to California and in California, such as on vacations, when they would spend money on tourism.  The drop in tourism dollars will very likely cause some tourist attractions to close, and some tourist attraction will have to raise rates to keep in business, which could put off people from making visits because the admissions will be idiotic and over-priced.  Next, where are all the charging stations for the electric vehicles going to come from. On August 29, 2022, an entity called The Daily Mail published an article called "How will we charge them all?  US needs to spend 35 BILLION to meet demand for 1.3 million public ports by 2030 (and that's not counting the 28M needed in homes!)" [Carbone, Christopher.  "How will we charge them all?  US needs to spend 35 BILLION to meet demand for 1.3 million public ports by 2030 (and that's not counting the 28M needed in homes!)."  dailymail.com, 29 August 2022, 17:41 EDT.]  Some of the article, which does not address where the electricity will come from, is--"America would have to install 30 million electronic vehicle charging ports by 2030 if half of drivers switch to EVs by the time California's band on gas cars takes effect.  If half of all vehicles sold are zero-emission by 2030, the country would need 1.2 million public chargers and 28 million private chargers by that year - which a McKinsey report claims would cost more than $35 billion over eight years.  Electric vehicles sales have been climbing by double digits each year since 2016, but over half of US consumers cite battery issues as their main concerns - and it's fair to say the limited network of public charging stations is a roadblock for many buyers.  The country has over 128,000 public EV charging outlets and at least 4,500 private charging stations - in comparison with about 150,000 gas stations - and faces a daunting task in trying to build out for its needs....".  On the surface, a person can say that that the news story is not bad news, and the something can be accomplished, that is having more charging stations set up.  But there is a hidden problem not addressed in the article.  A country that relies on, in essence, one type of electricity generation can get in trouble, especially if the type of generation is not well reliable and easy to control--diversity of power generation keeps a country in business.  By the way, it is being proposed that wind turbines be set up in bodies of water, such as at the edges of the Atlantic Coast, the Pacific Coast, and the Gulf of Mexico, and if such a thing takes place, those generating units will be easy targets for destruction by enemy countries.  What many people do not talk about is that many of the materials that are needed to make batteries for EVs are controlled by enemy countries to the United States of America, and the distribution of materials to make the batteries could be cut off at will, such as right before a war and once the United States of America has wiped out for the most part non-electric vehicles.  News reports exist that show how much volumes of earth and dirt and such have to be moved and processed just to make one EV battery, which can weigh about 1,000 pounds, and once a battery system goes bad, such as in ten years, the battery is, in essence, a toxic waste problem.  What the article does not report on is what it takes to mine some materials, and in June 2020, a man named Ronald Stein wrote an article called "Is it ethical to purchase a lithium battery powered EV?"  [Stein, Ronald.  "Is it ethical to purchase a lithium battery powered EV?"  cfact.org, 7 June 2022.], and the article shows what it takes to mine materials for batteries for EVs, and the process is highly destructive of land, which few people talk about, especially rotten politicians.  One of the politicians who does not talk about what distraction is done is Pete Buttigieg (the head of the U.S. Department of Transportation, though he lacks any background in transportation), and he somewhat recently became an official resident of Michigan, setting down somewhere in the general Traverse City area, and it seems to me Pete Buttigieg never repaired anything substantial on any vehicle.  Incidentally, the Traverse City area is one of the socialistic strongholds in Michigan, and another is the Ann Arbor area.  Hey!  Hold it!  Did you catch the article called "Ann Arbor is smartest city in America, according to WalletHub study" ["Ann Arbor is smartest city in America, according to WalletHub study."  Detroit Free Press, 25 July 2022, p. 8A.], and here is much of the article--"...The credit report website compared the 150 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the United States across 11 measurements, including the percent of high school, college and graduate degree holders, university quality and racial education gap.  The goal was to measure education attainment and the quality of education in each city.  Ann Arbor ranked No. l as the city with the highest percent of people graduating with high school, associate's, bachelor's and graduate/professional degrees.  However, the city did not rank in the top five in average university quality, smallest racial education gap or smallest gender education gap.  Ann Arbor landed at 138th out of 150 for one of the largest racial education gaps.  Four other cities in Michigan made the list.  Only Lansing was near the top at 22nd, Detroit ranked 83rd and Flint was ranked 120th....".  Pete Buttigieg is big on promoting the switch over from gas-type vehicles to electric vehicles as soon as possible, but he does not mention anything about how the EV is going to kill the used-car market, as I have in a document that is available on the Internet (which can be reached through this Electric Car link), and one reason is, when a battery system goes bad, the replacement cost of the battery system will make second-car and third-car vehicles for a family too expensive to buy.  But that is what Democrats seem to want--a country in which people cannot move about easily.  But they are promoting the increase construction of public-transportation systems, which are passé, given the country is too big and cities are too big, and such systems are hard to build and expensive to maintain.  By the way, the "People Mover" in Detroit has been a loser, in essence, for decades.  Oh, recently, I saw an article in the Cheboygan Daily Tribune that is related to the topic of mass transportation, and the article was called "Passenger train plan gets $2.3M in funding" [Graham, Karly.  "Passenger train plan gets $2.3M in funding."  Cheboygan Daily Tribune, 18 August 2022, pp. 1A and 3A.], and the story notes that people--and I say that it is the communists and socialists--want a train line set up between the Ann Arbor area and the Traverse City area, and, in a way, it is socialists and communists setting up their little toy, and the beginning part of the article is--"The second phase of planning to bring a passenger train from Ann Arbor to Petoskey, Traverse City and Cadillac has officially begun after receiving $2.3 million in federal and state funding.  The second phase of the plan is focused on research and determining the best ways to make an operational passenger train.  The first phase, which began in 2018, was a set of research determining that it would be feasible to have a passenger train between Southeastern Michigan and Northeastern Michigan.  The study looked into the economic components of adding a train, potential routes and the state of existing tracks through the state....".  I say that it is another government-based crappy plan, using taxpayer money for pet projects of idiot people.  It will probably have to be subsidized over the years, because most people are not going to take the train, choosing to go to so many other places to see in Michigan (and, in the future, maybe lacking the ability to get to the train, having no electricity for their electric car).  There is no way in which enough train lines can be set down and regularly maintained in the station to get people to all the places that have to be gotten do--it is no longer the 1700s and 1800s with few cities and towns (most of which were right along the few main roads or train lines that existed).  Oh, it seems I have digressed from the main theme.  Well, maybe not, if people take the train regularly between Ann Arbor and Traverse City that will result in tourist attractions and other things along the roads normally used to lose revenue--places will be bypassed.  If the electric car kills the used-car market, fewer people will be able to travel when and where they like easily, and that means places will not see as many visitors.  When people get off the train, they will have to rent cars or motorcycles or bicycles or go almost nowhere.  But that still leaves us with the problem about where the electricity is going to come from to power all the things that currently use gas, such as cars, stoves, water heaters, motorcycles, weed wackers, toasters, clothes dryers, chain saws, lawn mowers, et cetera.  If everything goes to electric, where is more than enough electricity going to come from.  Hey, take this into consideration--it can take, for example, eight hours or so to fully charge an electric car, as was noted in an article by the Kelly Blue Book entity in April 2022 [Lee, Chanel.  "How Long Does it Take to Charge an Electric Car?"  kbb.com, 1 April 1, 2022, 1:00 p.m..], and it is not really recommended that a vehicle's battery system by topped off (as opposed to topping off a gasoline tank).  It seems to me it will take a lot longer than eight hours to charge a semi-truck, or there will have to be a number of hook-ups at the same tie, but if the time is like 24 hours, it will be cost-defective to have a truck out of service for 24 hours, and the prices of products being moved throughout the country will be greatly increased, and there will have to be more trucks around.  Oh, the first article in this paragraph does not note all the things that will also have to be powered by electricity if gasoline and such become hard to get, and then there are all the batteries that have to be made for possible electric motorcycles and all the batteries that will have to be made for electric weed wackers and chain saws and all the rest.  No nuclear power plants are being built in the country today--not really.  If all the states follow the lead of California, you will have crap, and such people as the rotten Gretchen Whitmer (the current governor of Michigan) are eager to follow the lead of California and outlaw gas-based vehicles.  Oh, if many people end up trying to charge their electric vehicles at night (such as for about eight hours)--when basically the entire country is dark (since the sun is not around for about eight hours or more) and if the power can only be generated by solar panels and wind turbines in the country, will there be enough power generated?  Also, at least in the summer, I often notice the winds die down for night, because the sun is not heating up things and causing heat and air to rise, so the wind turbines will have less output--getting hit by less wind.  It looks as if electricity companies will then have to have super-gaint battery facilities to store power for use in cities and towns over night (and the systems might have to be the size of small towns), and that means even more stuff will have to be mined to make super-giant battery facilities for electric companies.  What percentage of public charging stations will be out of service because of breakdowns and repair?  And there goes tourism in the near future, and a lot of things will not run because of lack of enough electricity and because of brown outs and black outs!  I have yet to see anyone report on just how much electricity wind turbines and solar panels will have to produce at a given moment to make everything work when wanted on a twenty-four hour basis, such as to make all the things that will be wanted, which will have to be made with electricity-based machines getting electricity from wind turbines and solar panels.  It is not just electric cars!  Tourism it seems is in for a rough time under the Democrats--socialists and communists and progressives, all of whom promote enslavism forms of government, headed by evil people.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah).  By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is too keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.

Recently, I stumbled across an old brochure--a tourism-related brochure--for something called "Ruffed Grouse Walk," a place that I had not thought about in a long time.  By the way, given how many things there are to see in Michigan, a person can sort of forget about a few places or not think of such-and-such a place for a long time.  The brochure was dated May 1996.  That date might make you think the place has gone away or has been shut down.  Well, I went looking to see if the "Ruffed Grouse Walk" place still exists.  I found a website related to the place, which is operated by the Mio District Ranger District of the Huron Manistee National Forest.  The website has a map that shows how to get to the place, and it offers directions.  It starts out at Grayling, and it tells people to go east some thirty miles, etc.  I did not like the directions, given people can try to get to the place from anywhere and from any direction.  Let me try this.  Between Mio and Rose City is a road called M-33, which I travel on regularly throughout the year; the road is a main north-south road.  Between Mio and Rose City, a person on M-33 can come across a road called County Road 604 or Curtisville Road.  From M-33, go east on County Road 604 or Curtisville Road, and run about ten miles.  You will find that the road goes straight for a while and then curves off to the left, and, in essence, the road morphs in to Avenue Au Sable River Road.  You will find the "Ruffed Grouse Walk" area off to the left when you are on Avenue Au Sable River Road or Curtisville Road or County Road 604.  Now that I have that out of the way, and I can report what the Ruffed Grouse Walk thing is.  Basically, it is a hiking trail that is about six-tenths of a mile long, and it is a place where people go to see the habitat of Ruffed Grouse, which is a type of bird.  In addition, it is an area where people might also see Kirtland Warblers.  Both types of birds are ground-nesting birds, by the way.  The brochure does note that it is rare to find Kirtland Warblers and Ruffed Grouse nesting in the same habitat.  Many things mentioned in the brochure probably still hold true today, such as, when using the walk, stay quite, walk slowly, look around carefully, et cetera.  Do not be surprised if you see squirrels and other animals and birds.  My estimate is that the peak color-viewing season--the time with color in the trees--will be in the middle part of October for the area, and that could be a good time to see the area, though some days may be cool, of course.  It is reported at the website for the "Ruffed Grouse Walk" that the place is open seven days a week, but the season is between April 15 and October 31.  In addition, I make a point to say that the Ruffed Grouse Walk is related to the Jack Pine Viewing Area or tour.

Oh, I have this reminder about what freaks, such as Pete Buttigieg or like Pete Buttigieg, have been doing in relation to travel in Michigan.  Back in late 2021, Joelyn Benson, the secretary of state for Michigan, reported that the state driver's license will have a place for "nonbinary" designation, and that option began on November 10, 2021.  Nonbinary--this is crap from rotten people, freaks.

    Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!

And keep aware of the rotten people in Michigan.

    Stay well!

    Victor

P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslave"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children).  (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)

P.S. #2: While you travel in Michigan, it is easy to come across evidence of rotten people or to meet rotten people. One really rotten man is Richard Bernstein, who is a new member to the Supreme Court for the State of Michigan.  Evidence of his rottenness can be found in my document entitled Richard Bernstein--A Man Who Hopes You Are Blind to His Rottenness, which can be reached through this Bernstein link.  Yet, on Monday, January 12, 2015, the Detroit Free Press did a story about Richard Bernstein to sell Richard Bernstein as something good, though he is not (Ahern, Louise Knott.  "State's 1st blind justice aims to be inspiration."  Detroit Free Press, 12 January 2014, p. 4A.).  I report--I urge anyone who runs a business and loses a court case in which Richard Bernstein was one of the presiding judges to have the decision thrown out or killed through another case, since Richard Bernstein, while running to be elected to the Supreme Court of Michigan, made it clear that he was going to be biased against businesses if he were to be elected to the Supreme Court of Michigan, and that is a fact.  Richard Bernstein is a rotten man!

Your travel tip in this edition of Michigan Travel Tips is:
