Recently, I have several times opened an edition of Michigan Travel Tips with a note that I have updated Michigan Travel Tips #252 (which can be reached through this Travel #252 link), which focuses on making a camper van. Once again, I note that I have updated that April 10, 2025, document, which really is a collection of thoughts that I would want to keep in mind if I were to make a camper van--convert some type of vehicle to a camper van. Here, I report that finally I talk about sound deadening and insulation for a camper van in Michigan Travel Tips #252. I have come to the idea that my camper van should have some type of material like "Dynamat" or "Fatmat" or "Kilmat" or "Noico" put on portions of the inside walls my camper van (the vehicle walls proper), and it should be put on before insulation is put in place. In essence, for example, Kilmat comes in small sheets, one side of which has a glue-type material and the other side of which has a silver surface, and Kilmat is considered peel-and-stick material. The wheel-wells will get completely covered, and other parts, such as open flat spaces, will get only partially covered, such as around 25-percent covered, given full coverage is not commonplace or recommended. Once the sound-deadening material is in place, then I can install insulation, and I have come to the conclusion that "Thinsulate" from 3M should be used, which does not attract water or hold moisture like a sponge, and I will secure that Thinsulate with 3M 90 spray adhesive. In some cases, I might hold some of the Thinsulate in place by using "Eternabond" (Eternabond tape) roofing material, and double-sided auto-body molding tape (used to hold molding on the outside of a vehicle) might be helpful. By the way, it was a video on YouTube by Lauren Lawliss that made be finally decide on Thinsulate, and I report that she is a gal who urges people not to drill holes in body parts to install furring structure, and she urges people to find ways to use, for instance, crossnuts or rivet nuts with bolts--and I like stainless-steel bolts--to hold furring strips in place on the walls or whatever. And that is yet another introduction to a Michigan Travel Tips document. [Note: There is more stuff about the "RV" subject at the end of this document.]
By the way, it occurred to me recently that, if you travel in Michigan, you can see when a community is a dieing community (at least morally). For example, Ferndale seems to be a dieing community, and the evidence is the structure of many lawns in the downtown area. Lawn upon lawn is loaded with weeds--all types of weeds--and this year seems to be the worse season yet for weeds. But it must be remembered that Ferndale is one of those socialistic-based cities that likes the "no-mow-May idea," which gives weeds a good chance to go to seed and then let go of the seeds when it gets windy. In addition, in the downtown area, there seems to be a lot of people who rent and so those people or the owners of the properties care not about cutting down the weeds before they go to seed, and, in the case of those who are renting, they can come and go as they please, not worried about the long-term quality of that lawns at which they live, and, in other words, they can rent for a short time and then leave. It is just a thought about Michigan.
Warning announcement! Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips. The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law." Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia." When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah). By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really. Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.
I have a little history note. In 1895, what is now called the Voight House" or the "Voight House Victorian Museum" was built at 115 College SE in Grand Rapids. It has been a tourist attraction for a number of years or, really, decades, and, over the last few years, it has not been regularly open to the public. On May 16, 2026, and May 17, 2026, the house, which is operated by the Public Museum of Grand Rapids (of Kent County of the Lower Peninsula), was open for a home-tour event, which involved other houses or homes. In essence, the Voight House is not yet a regularly open historic house in Grand Rapids or Michigan. And that is my note, which might come to your mind if you travel by the house in the near future.
And I have this short note. When I look for places to talk about in edition of Michigan Travel Tips, I look in, for one, my several electronic documents with information about places to see in Michigan, and some of the places that I put in the files in the late 1900s are now gone. I noticed in my files recently the "Walter E. Hastings Museum," which was set up in 1956 and has been located at the Interlochen Center for the Arts (of Grand Traverse County of the Lower Peninsula) since then--it seems. I found a document on the Internet that notes that the museum still exists, and it is reported that it is only open in the summer when students are on the campus of the "center." At the moment, I do not know what is happening with the museum this summer because of lack of good information on the Internet. I report that Walter E. Hastings was involved in nature stuff, such as photography and lecturing about the stuff.
In my files, there is still a notation about the Formula K Family Fun Park, which was open at Mattawan for decades and which closed in 2015, and the entry just before the fun park in the document talking about the fun park and other stuff is--For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum. I went looking to see what was happening there. My entry does not note that a "Barrier Free Treehouse" was constructed, there, about ten years ago, and it is, for instance, able to be used by about three dozens children at a time. Overall, there are a lot of paved pathways in the 383-acre nature area, so the place is able to be used by everyone. In total, there are about seven miles of trails that most people can use to see birds and other wildlife, and the visitors center has animals that people can meet. Since 1970, the For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum has been in Genesee County of the Lower Peninsula at a city called Burton, which is a bit east of Flint. The address is 2124 North Genesee Road, and the place is open from 8:00 a.m. to sunset as a rule.
I have this travel note. I regularly make a 270-mile run in Michigan to get between two places where I live during a year. The vehicle that I usually use has a bunch of computer and sensors. From time to time, a warning light can come on; recently, I had an indication of trouble related to tires--a tire-pressure sensor went bad. Generally speaking, a warning light can come on for travelers, and the warning light does not give a clear indication of what the problem is. Sometimes, a warning light can sort of be ignored, and ignoring the light can lead to no big deal--you can still drive the vehicle. But sometimes a warning light should not be ignored. I recommend that a person who does a lot of long-distance driving have a code-reader on board. (I happen to have an Innova 5610 with me). If a warning light comes on for you, you can see whether or not you can continue to drive the vehicle or not, and that is a good tool to have if a person has a camper van or like vehicle and is out on the road for many weeks [See Michigan Travel Tips #252, which has information about camper vans, and use this Travel #252 link to get to the document.]
Since it is summer, I can go to the beach (a beach where I live part of the year), and it is a good-enough beach for me. But it seems it is not the best beach of Michigan. On June 15, 2026, the Detroit Free Press published what can be called a "USA Today network" article called "Top Michigan beaches ranked by USA Today readers" [Williams, Jalen. "Top Michigan beaches ranked by USA Today readers." Detroit Free Press, 15 June 2026, p.5B.]. The article presents the idea that "South Beach," which is at South Haven, which is along Lake Michigan, is the best beach n Michigan. I wonder if I would find it the best beach. What are the reasons that is the best beach? Would I see many wonderfully shaped gals in bikinis there? Given I see so few wonderfully shaped gals in street clothes in Michigan today as I did back in the 1960s--since the modern Feminist Movement has pushed gals into being sloppy and chubby and fat--I wonder if a trip to that beach would be useful. I note that some of the other beaches in the article are--Grand Haven City Beach, Warren Dunes State Park beach (the Sawyer area), Oval Beach (of Saugatuck), and Pere Marquette Park beach (at Muskegon). The article lists Silver Beach County Park at St. Joseph, which I saw a few times at least in the 1960s, when I visited my mom's parents, who lived at St. Joseph. I wonder if the same grains of sand are at Silver Beach as there were in the 1960s. Where is my magnifying glass?
I have a bit more to say about "RV" stuff and camper-van and even "vanlife." On YouTube, I have run across a number of videos (offered up without my calling for them particularly) about "vanlife," which focuses on people living in RVs and camper vans and truck-like homes, and I have seen all types of people, from seniors traveling as couples to single black gals. Since I published the previous edition of Michigan Travel Tips, I came across a guy living in a car, and he was dead in the water--the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was a 2006 Honda CR-V, and the guy was a young guy (a gay) with a cat. Boy, did he have a story to tell! He reported he was affected by the fires in California of last year, and he said he sort of rescued a gal from some guy, and he was traveling from California to the East to pick up a vehicle, and he was being looked for by a bad guy. [If he was heading to the East, why was he in the Detroit area, which is out of the way of a line from California to the East, which might involve Interstate 80?} He reported that he had an EV hummer recently. That seemed odd to me, given the cost of such a vehicle. Anyway, the young guy's teeth showed he had not cared for them. He reported that he was out of money. He was sort of panhandling to get money to eat. Do you see a crap story from the guy? He happened to get on the subject of "Epstein" and something to do about babies, and he mentioned Kamala Harris, hinting he was in praise of her, though--I know--she is a shit. I decided to help him a bit. I found that, for instance, the main 100-amp fuse was blown. Remember--He had a EV at one time. He did not know to check the fuses. What blew the main fuse is unknown to me. It seems very likely he had been running something odd in the vehicle and blew the main fuse through a screw-up. Inside the van, it looked crummy, by the way. He finally got someone in the area of his vehicle to help him out--with money, such as for a fuse. He was gone after about a week-and-a-half stall. I report--Such a stupid young man he was and is. Incidentally, I would not be surprised to learn he is one of those people who travels around the country--getting paid to do so--to be at protests and such to promote the Democratic Party (which is based today on communism and socialism and liberalism and other rotten stuff) and shitty government ways as good.
