A big snow storm/ice storm/rain storm crossed the country from about Friday, January 23, 2026, to Monday, January 26, 2026, going from roughly Texas to Maine, clipping Southeastern Lower Michigan, and it brought very cold air temperatures, and wind-chill readings reached various points below zero (Fahrenheit), and the storm reminded me of one day of several decades ago. From August 1976 to April 2023, I was a regular employee in the broadcasting area for AAA Michigan, and, for most of that time, the company was clearly working to promote tourism in Michigan and safe driving in the state, such as by having radio reports sent out live to radio stations that had information about travel conditions, especially for Fridays and Sundays. For 27 years, I took part in broadcasting and writing reports about tourism and traffic in the state, and one big day was Sunday, January 20, 1985. Basically, on Sundays around that date, I was doing broadcasting and head-writing work from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and I was regularly heard on WJR-AM, and I was working with two associates, who also did reporting to radio stations in the Lower Peninsula. It was a cold and windy day in Michigan and nearby states, such as Minnesota, on January 20, 1985. Hold it! I must report that people in January 2026 were hearing reports from weather people that the wind chills would be a bit below freezing, and they were hearing up to about minus 21 degrees. Got that? Well, at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 1985, I was done with work, and I heard (probably from WWJ-AM 950, an all news radio station) that the wind chill was standing at about 73 degrees below zero at 11:00 p.m.. By the way, on that day, for instance, the Detroit Free Press in an article called "Arctic air may make it feel like 60 below" ["Arctic air may make it feel like 60 below." Detroit Free Press, 20 January 1985, p. 2.] noted how the wind chills were going to be well below zero during the day. In 27 years at AAA Michigan (or Michigan AAA), that was the only day that my car did not start because of the weather, but the car had a carburetor and no fuel-injection stuff. Incidentally, one other night my car did not start; a few days earlier, I had put in a new set of "points" in the distributor, and the points had been manufactured in a crappy manor and fell apart after a bit of driving, though allowing me to make it to work on that work day, and the next day while the car was at the AAA Michigan headquarters building (in Dearborn, Michigan) in the parking lot, I put another set of new points in the vehicle (the distributor). I have to admit that, in around January 26, 2026, I did not hear any of the Detroit-area television weathercasts report as a weather history note about what happened on January 20, 1985, and, recently, the Detroit Free Press did not have a little story on the event, but the media, especially the Detroit Free Press, does shallow work these days, when compared with that of years ago. And the problems down south in the country because of the storm made me remember how I was adversely affected by the super-big ice storm of, for one, Presque Isle County, Michigan, of last March, and that storm led to my making a video about things I had to repair on the property in the county, such as the house, and that video can be found at the "channel" for "The Hologlobe Press" on YouTube, a channel that has 14 videos now, two of which talk about 40 Mile Point Lighthouse of the Rogers City area of Lower Michigan, which can be toured during the warm times of a year.
Warning announcement! Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips. The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islamic law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law." Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia." When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion, and it promotes killing of non-followers behind the face of religion and a god, Allah). By the way, a society based on "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping the ideas of the society based on ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders), whose main purpose is to keep themselves enriched through the work of others, the many--it is a gang-run society really. Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim stuff--particularly the true The Quran and not the translations of The Quran that are faked to hide the true nature of Islam--is better than the U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it.
People from all over world have come to the United States of America to be "Americans" and adopt the ways, especially the political ways, of The United States Constitution, but there are others who come and continue on with their rotten cultures, and examples of that can be found in Minneapolis, where people can be beholden greatly to "Sharia" or "Sharia Law" (which is opposed to the ways of The United States Constitution). Polish people came to the United Stases of America many years ago, such as John and Mary Selinsky. They showed up in the St. Clair Shores area of Michigan to become Americans in the late 1860s, and they built a house that would be used by them and relatives from 1868 to the 1970s. Today, the house is a museum called "The Selinsky-Green Farmhouse Museum," and it is located next to the St. Clair Shores Library, both of which can be said to be located along 11 Mile Road near Jefferson Avenue. I have known about the museum for a number of decades, but only recently did I look to see what might be new with it. I discovered that the curator of the museum--Kelly Guyman--posted a video about the museum on YouTube in 2025, and it is short. I learned that the museum has, for instance, a big stove that was built in Detroit more than one-hundred years ago. In the video, Kelly Guyman mentioned that Detroit at one time was the "stove capital" of the world, since many stoves, using iron that had been mined in the Upper Peninsula (for instance), were made in Detroit. I did not know that. The big stove is about 1,000 pounds in weight. The house has wonderful-looking furniture, much of which, however, it not original to the house, but that is not bad. Rooms cover such subjects as the parents room, the children's room, the kitchen, and the parlor, where stands an old organ. I have to report that the house shows how people made things years ago and how people of today like to care for things made years ago, and that is related to a good culture. There are societies in the world where, because people really do not do things, especially extraordinary things, the culture is based on taking from others and violence--it is something to do in life for the people of the cultures, since a person ends up doing something in life and has to do something. The Selinsky-Green Farmhouse Museum is yet another thing that you will not find in an Iran or a Somalia, and, this year, generally speaking, the museum is open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays between Labor Day and Memorial Day and open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The Quran is liked by Somalis (as a rule), such as by those in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where, recently, a big money scam was uncovered. Recently, I took a friend to a cardiologist in the Detroit area, and we ended up talking to a guy who a little while ago had lived in the Minneapolis area of Minnesota. He told a story in which he and his wife went in to a coffee shop at Minneapolis, and they found it filled with Somali type people--men and only men (which is not surprising to me since Somali-type people follow The Quran (rotten Islam). Immediately, they felt as if the place was not a safe place for them--they truly felt threatened in a city of the United States of America. Should you go to Minneapolis, be aware that places clearly do exist in Minneapolis that are anti-U.S. citizen, especially anti-white U.S. citizen. That is something to pass along to friends who might travel to the Minneapolis area in the near future. There is something rotten with the Somali culture in Minneapolis, and it is infecting Minneapolis adversely. By the way, the guy and his wife were white [if I have to talk about race], and I bet, for instance, American Indians, Japanese-types, China-types, and the like would not have been and would not be welcome at that coffee shop and other parts of Minneapolis, and, oh, I bet non-Somali-like blacks would discover there was no good welcome for them, too.
Enjoy your traveling in Michigan!
Stay well!
Victor
