It seems it has been a good year for snowmobile users and cross-country skiers and down-hill skiers in Michigan since there been a lot of snow in the state, and that is good.  I have had to do a lot of shoveling.  The winter reminds me of the winter of 1981-1982, when I happened to be working for AAA Michigan, particularly in the broadcast section of the company, which was involved with, for example, providing radio reports about long-distance road conditions in the state, especially on weekends, to radio stations all over the state.  I remember January 1982 was a tough time for weekend travelers in, for one, the northwestern region of the Lower Peninsula, a number of whom got stuck at their destinations or had delayed trips to or from their homes on the first few weekends, and then, the winter weather was very bad for the weekend related to the Super Bowl (played on January 24, 1982, at the Silverdome at Pontiac, Michigan) for travelers in, for instance, the southeastern region of the Lower Peninsula.  Sometimes winters are easy, and sometimes winters are hard, and that has been the way of nature for centuries and centuries and centuries.  (By the way, I am an expert of the The Mackinaw WAGB-83, the former icebreaker of the U.S. Coast Guard on the Great Lakes, which was in service from 1944 to 2006, and my research on the ship has put me in touch with information about the ice conditions of the Great Lakes between 1900 and 2006, and some years, Lake Superior was completely frozen over, and some years, it was not, so some years, the ship a lot of touch ice, and some years, it had not so much ice, and, for instance, winter /spring 1947 was a hard year for the ship on the Great Lakes, and in winter/spring 1956, the heeling system for the ship did not have to be used, but in winter/spring 1957, the heeling system had to be used to keep the ship moving and keep the ship from getting stuck)   And so it goes in life, and more tough times with the weather seem very likely to show up during the remainder of this winter.

Since I published the previous edition of Michigan Travel Tips, I have come across information or news that I feel a person should think about while traveling in Michigan, such as to a ski area or a snowmobiling location, which might be one in the northern counties of the Upper Peninsula of the state, which is usually where the best snowmobiling conditions can be found in winter as a rule in Michigan, and, actually, the information or news is something that a person should pass on to others, such as while traveling in Michigan with others--I see that, this year, Flagstar Bancorp is letting about 600 employees go (most of them are based in Michigan), and one reason employees are being let go is mortgage-loan-origination activity has been declining (as noted in one article published by the Detroit Free Press on January 17, 2014 (Tompor, Susan.  "347 Flagstar workers lose jobs as mortgage business plummets."  Detroit Free Press, 17 January 2014, p. 7A.)), and so if you hear the housing industry is doing well, such as through something Barack Obama tells you, you can understand the seller of the idea that the housing industry is doing well could be a rotten person.

In the Marquette area of Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula, there is an outdoor-recreation area called the Noquemanon Trail Network.  How far is it from where you live?  I do not know.  But if you are in the Marquette area, you might think about going cross-country skiing there.  The place has three main trailheads--(1) County Road 510, (2) Tourist Park, and (3) Forestville Road.  To use the outdoor-recreation area, you have to be a member of the entity or get a day pass (which can be picked up at the starting point for Forestville Road).  In addition, you can use your own equipment or you can rent equipment (rented equipment is found at Forestville Road).  Instead of going cross-country skiing, you could go snow shoeing, and you can bring your own snow shoes or rent snow shoes.  If you do not make it to the Noquemanon Trail Network when there is snow on the ground, you can, for instance, hike there.  The trail system is regularly groomed in winter, and it has been a good winter for snow at the Noquemanon Trail Network, as it has been elsewhere in the state.

Without giving statistics, I can report that the downhill-skiing places in Michigan seem to be doing well (I sort of have been keeping track of information as ski conditions in the state, as I have for decades), and that is good.  Sugar Loaf Resort (of the Traverse City area of Grand Traverse County of the Lower Peninsula) is still closed, but it has been closed for more than a decade.  I noticed that, in September 2013, a man named Liko Smith was involved in buying the place, so maybe it will yet be opened this ski season for at least a little while, especially for snowboarders ("Liko Smith Purchases Sugar Loaf Resort, MI; Plans The ToK, 560-actre Snowboarder's Mecca." PR Newswire, 28 September 2013).

Oh, I have statistics about the number of vehicles that crossed on the Mackinac Bridge in 2012 and 2013 (I got the numbers on the evening of Saturday, February 1, 2014, when the bridge was partially snow-covered, as I saw from web cams at the bridge).  I can report that 42,174 fewer vehicles used the famous bridge in 2013 than had in 2012.  Once again, the Mackinac Bridge had a down year over the previous year, which indicates to me that tourism could have been down a bit in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 2013 over 2012 or at least the traffic was down a bit in the region in 2013 over 2012.

Warning announcement!  Because of incidents at schools for children and incidents at other places for people in general tied to "Sharia" or "Islamic Law" or even the religion/political system known as "Islam," I now regularly have this paragraph as a part of each edition of Michigan Travel Tips.  The governmental system of the United States of America based on The U.S. Constitution and "Sharia" or, informally, Islam law, are not compatible and cannot co-exist, and one reason is "Sharia" (et cetera) is a political system, in which there is one-party rule, and that one party is basically made up or controlled by religious leaders who base all the ways of their culture or society on "Sharia" or "Islamic Law."  Those who uphold and practice "Sharia" have no tolerance for the existence of Christianity or Buddhism or Hinduism or non-religion, and that is a fact, and "Sharia" is a political system in which women are second-rate human bodies and in which clergy can be involved in determining  business transactions, and there is no "freedom of speech" tied to politics in a society related to "Sharia."  When you travel around Michigan and in other states of the country, watch for signs that rotten people are trying to teach you or family members, especially children, that "Sharia" is good and "Allah" is good and teach you or family members that the United States of America is bad and that, for instance, Christianity and Buddhism and Hinduism are bad, which I have evidence is happening and which is being brought about by people who are clearly working to make "Sharia" and "Islamic Law" a dominant political system in the world (it is a political system as rotten as socialism and fascism and communism are, since it promotes violence and thuggery and coercion and killing under the face of religion).  By the way, a society based of "Sharia" really creates nothing in the long run and does not advance the human society as a whole since it is too busy suppressing the ideas of people and keeping that ideas of the society based of ways of only a few minds up front (the political leaders, whose main purpose is too keep themselves enriched through  the work of others, the many)--it is a gang-run society really.  Yes, if you run across people pushing the idea that Muslim-stuff is better than U.S. is, especially to little children, go public and make it known to other good people and fight back against it!

I have to report a change in command at the University of Michigan and show up the rotten person who has been put in charge of the school (the school has already been a place for socialistic and communistic ideas, which are rotten ways of life people and communities, except for elites, as history shows).  On Saturday, January 25, 2014, the Detroit Free Press published a story entitled "Scholar doctor, U-M's new leader" (Jesse David.  "Scholar, doctor, U-M's new leader."  Detroit Free Press, 25 January 2014, pp. 1A and 3A.), and the subtitle was "He promises commitment to academic excellence, research, campus diversity."  When I hear "campus diversity" come out of a person's mouth and mind, I hear ignorance and rottenness coming from the person as a rule.  The man being discussed in the article is Mark Schlissel, and, of course, he is the subject of this paragraph.  The story had this material that he had spoken: "I will bring to Michigan a fierce commitment to the importance of public research universities, a strong and personal belief in the ability of education to transform lives, and the understanding that academic excellence and diversity are inextricably linked."  I say that Mark Schlissel brings more rottenness to the university.  For instance, "academic excellence and diversity are inextricably linked" is nonsense and idiocy.  There is no link.  Knowledge is knowledge, and knowledge has nothing to do with "diversity."  However, I say that, maybe, Mark Schlissel's idea of "diversity" relates to "diversity of ideas," and his diversity of ideas is related to making socialistic ideas and communistic ideas and Sharia ideas more acceptable, though, I say and report that such ideas of life are highly rotten.  In addition, Mark Schlissel probably considers "diversity" as something that deals with racial quotas--you have to have a more diverse student body (more people of different ethnic backgrounds on campus--hell with whether or not the students qualify to be on the campus because of their minds), and I add that he probably feels more Muslims--pushers of Sharia--should be on campus.  By the way, Mark Schlissel has ties to the rotten left-wing school known as the University of Calfornia--Berkeley, which exists in the morally and fiscally bankrupt State of California, where, for instance, because of a law signed in the state by Governor Jerry Brown in August 2013, children who are called "transgender" children can choose whatever bathroom they wish to use--for instance, boys can go in bathrooms normally set up for girls if the boys feel they are girls ("California Gov. Brown signs transgender-student bill."  FoxNews.com, 13 August 2013.).  That California law and practice is crap!  Of course, I can have some fun with Mark Schlissel's "diversity."  I say in jest--Maybe, there are not enough red squirrels on campus and the campus needs more red squirrels to be more diverse--there are too many gray squirrels and black squirrels.  I say in jest--Maybe, there are not enough taxpayer-paid-for "foot baths" for Muslims on campus.  When you travel around Michigan--particularly in this case the University of Michigan (the Ann Arbor campus or the Dearborn campus)--be aware of the rottenness that lies beneath the surface of places.  "Diversity"--it does not mean you have to promote rotten ideas about life and accept them as good or even let bad ideas go unchallenged as bad, and Sharia and communism and socialism are highly rotten ideas of life.  I say in jest--Yes, bring in a guy to head your university who comes from a dying state (California).  When you travel in Michigan, understand Mark Schlissel is a rotten man, and sometime in the future, people like him might push the idea of letting "transgender" students choose whatever bathrooms that they wish to use in schools in Michigan.  [Note: It has come to the point in the country where defective minds get to be seen as non-defective minds, and that is bad since it sets up the idea that no minds are defective and that biology not does fail sometimes.]

In the past, I have showed the Rochelle Riley (a black writer for the Detroit Free Press) is a rotten women, and through an article that she wrote for the Detroit Free Press for Sunday, February 2, 2014, Rochelle Riley once again showed off her rottenness and the rottenness of Detroit, which is a place that I do not promote as a place to see on vacations or whatever.  The article was entitled "Detroit's African-American museum must be saved" (Riley, Rochelle.  "Detroit's African-American museum must be saved."  Detroit Free Press, 2 February 2014, pp. 3A and 6A.), and the museum that was the subject of the article was the Charles H. Wright Museum, which is in Detroit.  At one point of the article, Rochelle Riley had: "...No entity is immune from the city's bankruptcy.  But we ought to save the Charles H. Wright Museum to avoid the embarrassment.  And by we, I don't mean just the city...."  Yes, Rochelle Riley does not mean just the "city"--she wants people outside the city to pick up the slack for the rottenness of Detroit and give up money to cover the crap that Detroit is and has been.  Already, Michiganians are being dragged into picking up the bill for keeping the Detroit Institute of Arts going, which Detroiters failed to keep going because they failed to keep their city going properly.  I say--"So, kiddies, take care of your toys, or you will lose your toys.  It is not my job to take care of your toys.  If you lose your toys, and you get embarrassed for being, for example, stupid, it is too bad.  So goes life!"   [By the way, in the same edition of the Detroit Free Press, there was an article entitled "More Black Leaders Want to Ease Laws on Marijuana" (Laitner, Bill.  "More Black Leaders Want to Ease Laws on Marijuana: With race a factor in arrests, many see it as a civil rights issue."  Detroit Free Press, 2 February 2014, pp. 3A and 6A.).  I will not discuss whether or not marijuana should be decriminalized here.  I note that marijuana is a mind-altering drug, and it is not good for blacks or whites--their minds.  Yet, black leaders seem to want to keep promoting the use of marijuana by blacks.  It seems to me the black leaders seem okay with keeping blacks doped up--which kills black minds.  The old cliché or slogan is--"A mind is a terrible thing to waste."  And the black leaders who think the marijuana issue is a civil-rights issue are rotten people.  Do you see why I do not promote Detroit as a place to see?  It is a rotten place with a lot of rotten people.  Those are the facts to keep in mind when you travel in Michigan.]

On Sunday, February 2, 2014, I saw the broadcast of the Super Bowl game.  At one point before the game was shown, there was a segment in which The Declaration of Independence was read.  That was great!  What was rotten is rotten people, such as Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, were involved in the event--communists and socialists, who are anti-The Declaration of Independence and anti-The United States Constitution, got to fake it on television, pretend to be supporters of the country.  Also during the broadcast, a commercial from Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan (who calls himself a "Republican" but acts like a socialist) was shown to Michiganians, and I saw it; Rick Snyder is trying to be re-elected as governor of Michigan, and that commercial was a part of his run-for-office launch.

On February 10, 2014--the day that this document was published on the Internet--I was aware some 30,000 supporters of "The Nation of Islam" were soon to show up in Detroit for a convention related to "The Nation of Islam," which is a black-racist organization that is headed by a black racist--Louis Farrakhan.  By the way, do you think an entity called "The Nation of Islam" is an entity with people who actually support the United States of America under The United States Constitution?  I say that, in essence, 30,000 or so rotten people were soon showing up in Detroit (around the third week of February), and on the last day of the convention, Louis Farrakhan was going to give a speech.  Louis Farrakhan was in Detroit in May 2013, and then he noted that he thought former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick--who is in prison and will be for many years--was a victim of racism.  And you have another reason why I do not promote Detroit as a place to visit.  [Warikoo, Niraj.  "Nation of Islam convention to bring 30,000 visitors to Detroit." Detroit Free Press, 6 February 2014, p. 9A.]

Oh, to end this edition of Michigan Travel Tips, I have to report on more rotten people that you could come across while traveling in Michigan.  On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, the Cheboygan Daily Tribune had a story entitled "Sierra Club applauds plan to drop coal-burning plant" (Contributed.  "Sierra Club applauds plan to drop coal-burning plant."  Cheboygan Daily Tribune (Cheboygan, Michigan), 18 December 2013, p. A5.).  By the way, notice the article did not give a real name for the writer of the piece, and that bothers me, since there is no real source listed, and it should bother you that no true source is listed.  The story noted how the Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative has decided to end construction of the coal-burning power plant at Rogers City (of Presque Isle County in the Lower Peninsula), and it noted how Anne Woiwode, the state director of the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter (the Sierra Club is a communistic-based entity) was pleased.  I say that the news is not good news.  It takes a lot of power to keep industry moving in the country and keep people, for example, warm in winters--and it cannot be achieved with only wind turbines and solar panels.  The final paragraph of the story--which was really only a sentence--was: "This marks the 184th proposed new coal plant project to be canceled since 2010, what amounts to 640 million metric tons of avoided carbon dioxide emissions."  The piece was written by a rotten person, who was pushing the idea that carbon dioxide is bad.  Carbon dioxide is not "carbon monoxide," which is a poison.  Carbon dioxide is what you breathe out, and carbon dioxide is used by plants.  The story showed how the Sierra Club is working to shut down industry and jobs in the United States of America, and it seems to be doing well.  By the way, Russia and China are not cutting back on the use of coal-based energy production.  Yes, Anne Woiwode and "Contributed" are rotten, and at least one of them is living in Michigan.  A good person should wonder--Who was "Contributed" and where does "Contributed" live?

    Stay well!

    Victor

P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslaver"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children).  (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)
