- - - T.H.A.T., Edition No. 229 - - -

Years ago, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, produced a television series, such as for television stations in Michigan, called Understanding Our World, and the heyday for the series was for the Detroit area (roughly) the 1950s and 1960s.  On October 26, 1969, Channel 7, WXYZ-TV, aired an episode of the series, and the guest was Nicholas Johnson, who was the head (the commissioner) of the Federal Communications Commission (or the FCC).  I have no idea what exact points were talked about on the episode, having not seen it.  I do know the theme for the day.  The theme or topic was "Is TV real?".  I could make a guess and say that nothing were really solved.  Here, though, I report that television is real, and my Television History and Trivia document shows the good and the real crap that television can be and is.

In 1999 and 2000 (at least), there was a broadcast television network or weblet called UPN (or the United Paramount Network), and during the period, one of the programs was a series called Dilbert, which was based on a comic strip, which was seen, for example, in the Sunday funny pages of newspapers around the country, and the first episode of the television series showed up on UPN on January 25, 1999.  In recent years, the Detroit Free Press--the socialistic and communistic newspaper--has carried the comic strip [but probably sort of reluctantly], given it was known that the creator of the series was an anti-communist and anti-socialist (but I guess the paper wanted to attract more than socialistic and communistic readers to keep in business at bit].  On March 2, 2023, the management of the newspaper finally was able to cancel the comic strip, based on public statements made recently by the creator of the comic strip--Scott Adams.  On March 2, 2023, Neal Rubin (clearly a socialist at least), who has been a writer for The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press over recent decades, got to have an article by him focusing on the Detroit Free Press' dropping the comic strip, and the article was called "'Dilbert' has been discarded -- not canceled' [Rubin, Neal.  "'Dilbert' has been discarded -- not canceled."  Detroit Free Press, 2 March 2023, pp. 4A and 6A.].  On the first page for the article in the Detroit Free Press, it was written--"...'Recent discriminatory comments by the creator, Scott Adams, have influenced our decision to discontinue his comic,' said a statement issued by Free Press owner Gannett and heartily seconded by management in our newsroom.  We're into inclusion, equity and not being a jerk, the statement more-or-less continued -- I may have added the jerk part -- and 'while we respect an encourage free speech, we will not provide a platform for individuals who counter our values.'  Our values, in this case, do not include referencing the results of a questionable poll of a tiny number of people and using it to proclaim, as Adams did, that 'if nearly half of all Blacks are not Okay with white people, that's a hate group.  I don't want to have anything to do with them.  And I would say, based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people.'....".  So, let me look at Detroit.  On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, the Detroit Free Press published a story called "Report: Detroiters are for reparations." Detroit Free Press, 5 April 2023, pp. 4A and 12A.].  By the way, Detroit is about 85-percent black.  The article started out with--"More than half of Detroiters support reparations in some form and most say elected officials should make it a high policy priority to address racial inequality, according to a new report.  The findings, from a survey by the University of Michigan's Detroit Metro Area Communities Study and the Center for Racial Justice, look at Detroiters' views on reparations -- defined by researchers as case payments to Black Americans to counter the impacts of slavery and discriminatory policies.  The results align with what Detroiters said at the voting booth in 2021 when they overwhelmingly backed a ballot initiative to form a reparations task force....".  By the way, another portion of the article was--"Other cities -- including Ashville, North Carolina; Evanston, Illinois; St. Paul, Minnesota, and Providence, Rhode Island -- have adopted or initiated reparations legislation, according to the Citizens Research Council of Michigan.".  On Saturday, April 18, 2023, the Detroit Free Press published "Reparations solutions will be more than money" [Afana, Dana.  "Reparations solutions will be more than money." Detroit Free Press, 18 April 2023, pp. 4A and 7A.].  The opening portion of the article was--"Detroit's reparations task force dived into its first meeting Thursday at City Hall, introducing members and setting up the structure of the task force.  Commissioners are expected to provide a written report to the City Council with findings and recommendations to address systemic racism toward Black Detroiters within 18 months of the first meeting.  Board members on Thursday addressed their visions for the taskforce, ranging from making systemic changes and adding to the national conversation of addressing reparations.  Executive co-chair Keith Williams, who also chairs the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus, pushed for the passage of the reparations ballot initiative to establish the task fore in the 2021 Detroit election.  'Today is a historical day as we begin the process of rewriting the wrong (and) repair the harm that was caused by racist practices and our political process that wasn't favorable to Black folks,' Williams said.  Executive co-chair Lauren Hood, city planning commissioner, emphasized that reparations include more than a form of compensation.  Things such as cash payments are 'potentially' part of the discussion, but solutions will involve 'so much more than a check.'".  And--I report--that is Black communists in action!  In essence, Blacks were instrumental in putting Detroit into bankruptcy (in 2013), and now "reparations" are coming.  Who is going to pay out the money to the Blacks?  Will it only be "whites" who will be taxed specially in some way?  The rottenness of the whole idea is high and off the charts!  What can be deduced about the majority of Blacks in Detroit based on the two articles in the Detroit Free Press?  What can be deduced about what Detroit is mostly?  It looks as if "whites" in Detroit, such as those who run businesses, are going to be put in crap by rules to be set up in Detroit soon, and smart people should get out  of Detroit and let Detroit die while it can be done easily and less expensively.  And that is why I do not promote Detroit as a place to see through editions of Michigan Travel Tips, and I have not done any promoting for quite awhile [Click on Travel.].  There is rottenness in Detroit, and it is high!  And Neal Rubin is yet another liar and more that it rotten, given Scott Adams was "canceled" in this day and age of "cancel culture" from the communists and socialists and liberals and progressives!  Incidentally, on the YouTube, there are videos that show the death that Detroit area, such as the barren areas, and it seems more will show up in the years to come, and more people, even some blacks, will abandon Detroit to get away from the crap!  By the way, Highland Park is sort of like a little Detroit, being around by the land that is Detroit, and, recently, the public well learned that Highland Park--another black city--is, in essence, bankrupt, being, for one, unable to pay millions of dollars in water bills, and there are efforts to get the city to file for bankruptcy.  Then that reminds me of the mostly black Flint, Michigan, which, in (circa) 2014, ended up with the "Flint Water Crisis" (as it is informally called today), which had been caused by rotten people--citizens of Flint--voting rotten politicians into public office, and even after the crisis officially hit, people voted for crappy people to yet run Flint (as I showed in Television History and Trivia #161 (which can be reached through this T.H.A.T. #161) link and other documents at the website for The Hologlobe Press), some of whom ended up in office that had criminal backgrounds.  And then that takes me back to my youth in the 1950s and 1960s and 1970s, and in at least the late 1960s and early 1970s, my mother's father was part owner of Empire Hardware in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and in the early 1970s, with a lot of blacks moving into Benton Harbor, the crime rate when up at the hardware store, so my grandfather got the hell out of Empire Hardware, and then in the early 1980s, Benton Harbor was a dead city--it having gone from mostly white (90-percent white) to mostly black (90-percent black) in about twenty years and into bankruptcy [Peterson, Iver.  "ONCE-VIBRANT MICHIGAN TOWN IS PARALYZED BY DEBT, DESERTION AND PERVASIVE POVERTY." The New York Times, 21 March 1981, section 1, p. 8.].  Black inner-city culture of the last fifty years or so is crap--it having roots in communism and socialism and liberalism and progressivism!  And again a person has to ask--Who are the real crappy people?.  I do believe Neal Rubin is one.  And now the Detroit Free Press has a new top editor, and it is Nicole Avery Nichols, a person who is truly a black socialist; Nicole Avery Nichols had been the edtior-in-chief of something called "Chalkbeat," which pushed out the idea today that is it tied to "Essential education reporting in Detroit" [and I looked at the website for the entity, and the stories supplied on the main page on the day that I looked (May 9, 2023) made me gag).  A person has to remember the educational standards have gone to crap for children of Detroit--mostly black children--since the 1960s, and it seems more than 40 percent of the Third Graders in Detroit are defective in at least reading.  The article in the Detroit Free Press (noted above) had this material from Nicole Avery Nichols--"...'I firmly believe in centering people and their experiences within the heart of journalism, and I am thrilled to be leading one of America's most powerful newsrooms as we tell the stories that matter most,' Avery Nichols said.  'I look forward to engaging new audiences amid our ever-changing and diversifying media landscape.'....".  The material is flap doodle.  Mostly, the Detroit Free Press provides useless news, and almost none of it will be seen as worthwhile in the years go come.  For example, on May 8, 2023, the top story was "A life of feeling 'disconnected'" [Altavena, Lily.  "A life of feeling 'disconnected'." Detroit Free Press, 8 May 2023, pp. 1A and 7A.], and the subtitle to the story was "Some don't receive an autism diagnosis until adulthood".  The story has no real value, and it affects almost no one.  I can go back to the 1960s and see editions of the Detroit Free Press, and I can see history and a bunch of socialism mush, and I can learn what was going on.  The second story in the edition of the newspaper for May 8, 2023, was "FEEDING THE CHILDREN" [Brookland, Jennifer.  "FEEDING THE CHILDREN."  Detroit Free Press, 8 May 2023, pp. 1A and 10A.}.  The two stories mentioned are not top stories; they are stories of fluff to be buried deep in the newspaper.  So, Nicole Avery Nichols thinks the stories are important news!  The reparations thing and like themes of nonsense are what I shall expect to see more of in the Detroit Free Press in the days to come  By the way, there are other rotten stories in the Detroit Free Press for May 8, 2023, and one was on page 9A [Joak, Josh.  "Biden: 'We're making real progress'." Detroit Free Press, 8 May 2023, p. 9A.], and it was about jobs in the country.  The first bit of the story was--"WASHINGTON -- For President Joe Biden, the past few days have raised hopes that the U.S. economy can stick a soft landing -- possibly avoiding a recession as the 2024 election nears.  Most U.S. adults have downbeat feelings about Biden's economic leadership, as high inflation has overshadowed a strong job market....".  Hold it!  There is not "strong job market" at this time.  Evidence I have been seeing at stores for several years, by asking managers and others about how it is going with workers, such as at the Holiday Market in Royal Oak, Michigan, the communistic and socialistic city, shows the job market is not strong, and a lot of people are not in the workplace, though they should be.  It is hard to get people to work and stay on the job, and a lot of the young workers at idiots, even having to be taught how to sweep up.  By the way, I see constant turn over at deli counters at grocery stores, and I see hours cut at deli counters, too.  Yet, the story in the Detroit Free Press did have--"...But to the president and some economists, the April jobs report issued Friday challenged that theory with its 3.4% unemployment rate and 253,000 jobs gained....".  How many of those who got the jobs will be gone in a few days?  I have heard stories about people staying on the job just long enough to get another round of unemployment.  In the end, when the managers and staffers of Gannett and the Detroit Free Press talk, such as about providing useful news and about Dilbert, and I think it is a bunch of crap, and their "inclusion" is just a collection of the same type of crappy people of various skin colors--white, black, red, et cetera--and the inclusion is for more communists and socialists and progressives and liberals (all of whom are bad people, as history shows).

Over the last two years, I have talked about "ugly" television series, and now I am getting around to passing along this more information about "ugly" television and "bad" television, though focusing mostly on "bad" television.  I have mentioned recently that some of the "ugly" television shows or series that people have been given by broadcast network television recently are The Cleaning Lady, Accused, an American Auto (and you can look back a previous editions of Television History and Trivia to learn why they are "ugly" shows and "ugly" television series).  By the way, the half-time show for the Super Bowl LVII of February 12, 2022, having Rihanna, was bad television, but it was not ugly television.  It was on February 12, 2023, that I was inspired to put together this section, because on that day, instead of watching much of the Super Bowl pregame stuff on Fox TV, I was paying attention to what the Decades network was airing.  On the weekend involving February 11, 2023, and February 12, 2023, Decades (which would soon be called Catchy Comedy) aired a bunch of "Blondie"-themed movies (featuring Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake) and some episodes of the 1957 television series called Blondie.  On February 12, 2023, I went on YouTube to refresh my knowledge of the 1968-1969 television series called Blondie, and I looked at one episode, and it was "bad" television but not "ugly" television.  So let me pass along some television history and even movie history.  From 1938 to 1950, Americans were given 28 "Blondie"-based movies at movie theaters, and the first was called Blondie and the last was called Beware of Blondie, and the featured performers were Penny Singleton as Blondie Bumstead and Arthur Lake as Dagwood Bumstead, and the movies were based on a comic strip created by Chic Young.  The movies were fun and nice.  It was not till October 12, 1968, when the "Blondie"-based movies began to be seen through syndication in the Detroit area.  On October 12, 1968, WJBK-TV, Channel 2, began to run the package of distributed movies about Blondie, and the first aired was Blondie, and the movies were aired weekly.  By the way, over the last year in Detroit, the Blondie-based movies were shown on Decades (Channel 2.5) and Television Drive-In (Channel 3.6) (which is now dead).  In the fall of 1954, newspapers were publishing little stories that noted that a television series about Blondie was in the works, and a pilot was produced, and the half-hour program featured Connie Britton as Blondie and Hal LeRoy as Dagwood (the husband).  The pilot (which was a King Features Syndicate Feature produced by Hal Roach Jr. Productions) "did not sell" or "did not go to series" (as it might be said in entertainment-trade newspapers or magazines).  In January 1957, a series called Blondie began to run on NBC-TV on a weekly basis, and this series had Connie Britton as Blondie and Arthur Lake as Dagwood.  Stuffy Singer, who had been in the 1954 pilot, played Alexander (the son), and Lucien Littlefield, who had played the mailman in the pilot, showed up in the series as the mailman.  It was in September 1968, when yet another series called Blondie showed up on national television, and it was aired by CBS-TV, and it featured Patricia Harty as Blondie and Will Hutchins as Dagwood.  The Blondie character has showed up in cartoon form over the years, though not recently, and, for example, on May 15, 1987, CBS-TV aired an animated special called Blondie & Dagwood, which featured Loni Anderson doing the voice of Blondie and Frank Welker (a famous voice-over-work actor) doing the voice of Dagwood.  That covers some history.  When I saw an episode of Blondie from the 1968-1969 television season, I was reminded how bad the series was, and the episode was about Mr. Dithers' (played by Jim Backus) having a quarrel with his wife and moving into the Bumstead home (temporarily).  The episode was not funny, and the program seemed stilted and stiff, lacking emotion (such as in the delivery of lines), and it looked like a one-take production from the director (Norman Abbott).  Oh, the producer was Joe Connelly, and both Norman Abbott and Joe Connelly had worked on The Munsters, which people still like to see today, and Joe Connelly had been involved with The Amos 'n Andy Show on television.  The worst part of the episode was the casting.  Patricia Harty did a bad cover for Penny Singleton's Blondie, and Will Hutchins did a very bad cover for Arthur Lake's Dagwood, and what was really bad was when Dagwood yelled out "Blondie" (as had been done by Arthur Lake in the Blondie-based movies)--it was horrible.  Hal LeRoy was better at replacing Arthur Lake than Will Hutchins was.  Now, let me get to the series called Blondie of 1957.  It was not super great television, but it was sort of in the feel of what half-hour filmed series were often like in the 1950s--harmless but a little flat at times.  YouTube has the 1954 pilot, episodes of the 1957 series, and at least one episode of the series from the 1968-1969 season.  I urge you to take a look at them.  You will see what the nature of television could be like in the 1950s, such as when a production came off a bad, such as because of bad writing and bad acting and bad direction.  Oh, you could see episodes of The Jack Benny Program and The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show to get a feel of what it was like when a series was moving along well and not badly, such as because the direction was good, and that could be done to understand context of the 1950s with respect to television series production.  What you see will not be ugly, such as by having unlikeable characters or freaky characters or continual anger and violence.

Announcement for the novice again (reworked in March 2019): To get useful television-delivered news or Internet-delivered news, try Breitbart News Network (the history of which goes back to 2007), WorldNetDaily.com, Newsmax TV (which was started up in 2014), CNS News (which is on the Internet and which was launched on June 16, 1998), and One America News Network (a.k.a. OAN), since the entities do not blindly support Barack Obama-type people (communists, socialists, progressives, liberals, and Shariaists), as do CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV (Note: To learn about bad journalism, you might tune in to CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV from time to time to see how they differ from the better places mentioned).  I note that the Fox News Channel is evolving into a rotten channel, becoming like those that I have put down in this paragraph.  If you are unclear of my intentions, I say in different words that you should boycott CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV and even now much of what is on the Fox News Channel and hope they lose more ratings and advertising revenues, since they are expendable, and it is time for you to find the guts to be mean and heartless and cancel them--since they are hurting you.  In 2019, "The Drudge Report" was sold, and it should be treated as suspect for now.   [Note: Everyone in the Democratic Party in the country is rotten, and the Republican Party establishment has shown itself to be socialistic and communistic within the last few years, and only a few of the rotten people tied to the Republican Party are U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie.]
[Note: Here is an example of Chris Christie's rottenness.  On Sunday, February 6, 2022, Chris Christie was a guest on This Week with George Stephanopoulos (of ABC-TV), which had Martha Raddatz as the host, and Christ Christie pushed out crap.  For example, Chris Christie said--"...And let's face it.  Let's call it what it is.  January 6 was a riot that was incited by Donald Trump...an effort to intimidate Mike Pence and the Congress into doing exactly what he said in his own words last week--overturn the election.  And he's trying to do a cleanup on aisle one here...." and "...He actually told the truth by accident.  He wanted the election to be overturned....".  That is bullshit!]

In the previous edition of Television History and Trivia, I showed one big example of the type of crap news that gets presented by the main media, such as WPBN-TV and particularly Miya Ingle of WPBN-TV, and the theme was baseball and climate change, and now I present something that, if not covered by your favorite television news entity, then that entity is crap.  On April 10, 2023, U.S. Representative Jim Jordan (the chairman of the "Committee of the Judiciary" of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter and a subpoena to Christopher A. Ray, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which has been show to be a corrupt and even communistic entity, such as through the work that the FBI did to illegally get the ability to spy on associates of Donald J. Trump a couple years ago--members lied to a FISA court.  The letter to Christopher A. Wray printed out on three sheets of paper, and I have the opening main parts here, which contain information that television newscasters should have presented to viewers.

The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) handling of domestic violent extremism investigations against Catholic Americans and its effect to protected First Amendment activity.  Based on the limited information produced by the FBI to the Committee, we now know that the FBI relied on at least one undercover agent to produce its analysis, and that the FBI proposed that its agents engage in outreach to Catholic parishes to develop sources among the clergy and church leadership to inform on Americans practicing their faith.  This shocking information reinforces our need for all responsive documents, and the Committee is issuing a subpoena to you to compel your full cooperation.

We have repeatedly sought information from the FBI relating to a January 23, 2023 document generated by the Richmond Field Office entitled 'Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical-Traditional Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities' ('FBI's Richmond document').  In this document, the FBI purported to categorize Catholic Americans based on theological distinctions and relied on the Southern Poverty Law Center to suggest that certain kinds of Catholic Americans may be domestic terrorists.  On February 16, 2023, we first wrote to you requesting documents and information to inform our oversight.  After receiving no response, we reiterated our outstanding requests in a subsequent letter dated March 20, 2023, we received a substandard and partial response consisting of only 18 pages--many with significant redactions or "personally identifiable information" or "specific non-public information about [FBI] investigations, sources and methods" that prevents the Committee from fully assessing the content and context of the documents and obtaining information requested from the Bureau.

This limited information that as provided to the Committee makes clear that we must possess all responsive material without redactions  From this selective production, we know that the FBI, relying on information derived from at least one undercover employee, sought to use local religious organizations as "new avenues for tripwire and source development."

There are a number of things that I must point out in relation to only that portion of the letter to which this section pertains.  The Southern Poverty Law center is a communistic entity--an anti-United States of America entity.  Forget that for the moment, though.  Why is the FBI conducting any business in such a way with a private group?  Given the group is a known communistic entity, why is the FBI, which should be anti-communistic, relying on that entity for anything?  A person who reads the three paragraphs, the third of which is not complete, has to see that the FBI is stonewalling or thumbing its nose at, at least, the head of the Committee (Jim Jordan, who is a Republican), working to avoid giving out any information, which it is supposed to do through a request from an entity of the U.S. Congress (in this case the U.S. House of Representatives).  It is another example that shows the corruption of the FBI.  Only an entity trying to hide something rotten would work to avoid cooperating with Jim Jordan.

Now I have a big section that focuses on news, mostly related to Detroit television but not exclusively to Detroit television.  Between early March 2023 and late April 2023, I was not in the Detroit area, and a bunch of changes took place in the period with some television news departments.  Dave LewAllen is no longer at WXYZ-TV, having retired.  Grant Hermes left the anchor team of WDIV-TV.  Kevin Jeanes left the weather department of WXYZ-TV.  On April 29, 2023, I saw a Stephanie Mead doing weather on WJBK-TV for the first time, though she had been with the station for several weeks.  Oh, I went to the website for WXYZ-TV on April 28, 2023, to see what day was the last for Dave LewAllen on WXYZ-TV, and I got the information, and I also got a jackass news story from the website.  Darren Cunningham is a fairly new staffer at WXYZ-TV, and his name was attached to a story called "Ferndale set to launch inaugural 'No Mow May'" [Cunningham, Darren.  "Ferndale set to launch inaugural 'No Mow May'."  wxyz.com, 28 April 2023.].  By the way, for television and movies, directors who direct products and then wish not to have their names on the credits may use the name "Alan Smithee" (or a variation of it) instead, and my television files show some examples of the use (but not all).  Darren Cunningham should have gotten his name off the story, because the story is idiocy, but Darren Cunningham probably thought his name being attached to the story would raise his resume (showing something he had done) or thought the story was good or useful, though--I say--that it is crap.  He could not have used Alan Smithee, though.  He could have had the story issued without the name of a writer or an author.  The story is about Ferndale, Michigan, and how the city is allowing people to not mow their lawns in May 2023 and not get tickets for letting the grass grow so high, and it is climate-change related crap.  By the way, mostly, women were tied to the story.  Consider this text from the story--"'No Mow May' is a conservation initiative that supports sustainability, especially in urban environments,' Claire Dion, Ferndale's zero waste program coordinator explained.".  So, for one, taxpayer money is going to pay some jackass woman to be a "zero waste program coordinator".  It is wasted money!  Look at the next section--"She said it's good for insects, birds and a host of pollinators.  Dion oversees the program and said, so far, 340 residents have registered.".  In the last 100 years at least, people have mowed lawns, and there have been no problems with not enough insects and not enough birds, and insects and birds have adapted.  Oh, go outside on a spring day and a summer day, and tell me what you find in the way of mosquitoes, especially in the evening.  Where I am when in Ferndale (sometimes), I see no problem with, for example, the robins and little birds--they are doing well going for bugs and such in the lawns.  Later the article had--"Professor Elizabeth Tibbetts, who teaches ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Michigan explained, 'By not mowing in May, that increases the flowers available to pollinators and it helps ensure they're more likely to survive.'".  What bullshit that is!  Hey, I love to mow down flowers on laws, such as tulips!  Hold it!  That is a joke!  Good flowers are usually not on lawns.  Naive people probably think they should trust a "professor" tied to the University of Michigan and to "ecology and evolutionary biology."  It has been the rule for decades that lawns have not been the main living area for flowers, but, of course, there are those dandelions, and if those are not held back, such as from seeding, they will take over a lawn, and the lawn can up crappy for all season.  Hold it!  For the last five years, I have been helping a neighbor gal who has a bad back.  Somehow a number of years ago, "Grape Hyacinth" got in her front lawn (it is a plant with a bulb), and it probably came from the guy who cut the lawn and other lawns, and she ended up with seeds from some other lawn.  Yes, about five years ago, I began to help the neighbor, and what I did was, in the spring, dig out the Grape Hyacinth plants (when they were about to go to seed), and I must have spent five hours doing digging for the first year of attack, and, every year since, I have had to attack the plant in the spring when the plants can be found in near the flowering stage.  This year, I was able to to work for only about twenty minutes to beat them down.  When the "Grape Hyacinth" gets in a lawn, it is a shit situation.  The only way to get rid of the plant is to kill the entire lawn (with chemicals) and start over or dig the plants out--you have to get the bulbs out.  If you want to screw up a lawn, put in "Grape Hyacinth" seeds.  It is invasive and evasive!  Let me get back to the story.  And I note that, if you let a lawn grow high, it can be hard or harder to cut, because it is tall and plant parts can clog up the lawn mower and because plant stems and grass blades can be older and tougher to cut, and if you do not take up the grass clipping clumps, the clumps can kill off grass.  It probably takes more gas or electricity to cut the tall grass and weeds, because you have to fight through the stuff, instead of zipping along (being more energy efficient) and putting the clipping back down into the lawn, and you might have to make more than one pass for each spot of the lawn.  The story had--"She [Professor Tibbetts] said by reducing mowing it gives insects more places to live and more food for them to eat.".  Are you going to tell me that there is not enough food for insects to eat already?  Her thought is bullshit!  Hey, take this into consideration.  When the grass gets high in the spring and there is dew, that can be good for ticks and mosquitoes (though mosquitos are born in water).  Look at this silliness from the article, something that I could see coming out of a mind of a little girl--"'You wouldn't do well eating the same food all day, one food all day.  Insects don't do well with that either.  So, grass is not a very good environment.  That if there are more little plants and weeds growing in there, the insects are much happier," Tibbetts said.".  Yes, you got to have more weeds and more variation in weeds for the bugs and insects, who must be suffering with what they have now.  We want "happy" insects and bugs!  They should be giggling and laughing regularly!  Yes, Ferndale should promote the idea that lawns should have more weeds!  Save the bugs!  Save the insects!  That is what Ferndale needs--more weeds in the lawns!  [That reminds me of the George Carlin comedy bit about saving the whales and all.]  Do you see my joke?  Yet another part of the article from Darren Cunningham is--"Dion said, 'As they [people not bugs] have additional leisure time for not mowing during the month of May, we want to encourage people to plant more native plants and really support pollinators by adding native plants to their yard.".  Hey, are those native plants the "Grape Hyacinth" things, which could migrate from yard to yard.  Does it mean we should plant more flowers and weeds in the grass?  There are so many types of weeds that will screw up lawns--kill grass--if they are allowed to go to seed, and I have pulled them out before they seed so that they do not get out of hand.  [I could say that Elizabeth Tibbetts is working to kill grass so that there are more weeds to mow.]  The whole theme from the people in the article is jackass stuff of freaks.  By the way, there was a photograph of Elizabeth Tibbetts with the article, and, to me, she looks mentally unpleasant (reminding me of an ill person of the past).  I would have gagged if I would have had to put together the article.  It teaches shit!  But that is the way of television news, which mostly passes along useless information; for example, I have seen television newscasts on Detroit television that cover things in states far away, such as traffic accidents, and such things have no local value and are only filler, and the stuff takes up space and time that could be used to cover something in the Detroit area, which might--might--have value.  However, there are times when a local television newscast should pass along something that is happening far away--if it can lead to crap being imposed by people in the Detroit area (politicians) on other people.  For example, on April 20, 2023, the Essex Westford School District of Essex Junction, Vermont, pushed out a letter that shows the crap that is infecting schools, and it is coming from socialistic and communistic and progressive-type people.  Sara Jablonoski, the principal of the Essex Westford School District, signed her name to the letter that was sent to "Dear 5th Grade Families and Caregivers" on April 20, 2023.  It is the type of crap that could easily come to Michigan.  Look at the letter:

It is time for our science/health unit about the human body focused on puberty and the human reproductive systems.  This unit will take place during the last few months of school.  We well focus on the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty and briefly introduced the basic structure and function of human reproductive systems.  Students will be participating in whole group discussions and have private reflection time.  There will also be three interview opportunities coming home throughout the unit.

In an effort to align our curriculum with our equity policy, teachers will be using gender inclusive language throughout this unit.  With any differences, we strive to use "person-first" language and best practice.  You will see examples of this below.

We will be using the following language with students:

    *    Person who produces sperm in place of boy, male, and assigned male at birth.
    *    Person who produces eggs in place of girl, female and assigned female at birth.

We are working on editing worksheets and handouts to reflect these changes but you may see some worksheets that have not changed yet.

If you are interested in seeing the materials teachers will be using, we will have a binder available in the main office for you to review.

Please reach out with any questions.

That is the main body of the letter, and it is crap of the first degree.  So boys and girls are not individuals--they are "persons who produce sperms" and "persons who produce eggs."  That is idiocy!  That story is something that should be reported all over the country.  The rottenness of the Essex Westford School District must be publicized so that people in other places can see what might be coming to them.  Anyone who promotes such crap is highly rotten.  And while I am on the subject of crap, and I have get back to the article by Darren Cunningham.  The article reported that Ann Arbor and Royal Oak (places of Michigan), which are communistic and socialistic strongholds, also have "No Mow May" events.  In the previous edition of Television History and Trivia, I talked about the Royal Oak Daily Tribune, and I reported how crappy the delivery of the newspaper was for recent months, and I reported how the delivery person wrote "STOP COMPLAINING, CRYBABY" on an edition of the newspaper, a threat that was designed to get delivery complaints, such as about having editions delivered in the street, stopped.  Well, I wrote the publisher of the newspaper in snail-mail form, and I received no response.  And that is the end of my seeing the Royal Oak Daily Tribune.  It is a dead issue!  I hope the newspaper goes out of business!

On Monday, May 1, 2023, I did a little survey of some of the newscasts on WXYZ-TV to see who the anchors and reporters were, given Dave LewAllen was now gone from the station, and during the process, I paid a bit of attention to the newscast offered by WXYZ-TV on Channel 20 (WMYD-TV) at 10:00 p.m., and it was a newscast hosted by Glenda "Ms. Erotic News Gal" Lewis and Brian Abel.  The first story was about gun-free zones being proposed for Detroit, and I say that the theme of having such zones is idiocy.  The second story was about Highland Park and its inability to pay water charges (of millions of dollars).  The next story was about freeway shootings.  Then, Dave Rexroth did a weather bit.  The next story was about an animal ordinance in Warren.  The next story was about an EMT staffer punching (it seems) some other person.  The next story was about elections set for the next day.  Then, the viewer got a bunch of ads, such as for Bernstein Law, FanDuel, Eastern Michigan University, and Wallside Windows, and a news promo (for "Action News").  Next, there was stuff about an EV factory.  Then, the newscast had a bit about job cuts at General Motors.  Then, the newscast had information about how Ann Arbor was expanding the "No Mow May" idea.  Cruise ships of the Great Lakes came next.  Dave Rexroth was then brought back to do a longer weathercast.  Then, another ad block showed up, and the first thing was tied to Delta Dental and a theme called "Spotlight on Civility," which I found to be crap, and there was an ad for Applebaum and Stone (a law firm that came off as a gutter entity), and the ad block had an advertisement for yet another gambling entity (the Golden Nugget Casino), and it had a plug for "Trion Solutions."  I gave up on the newscast.  A bunch of lawyers ("slip-and-fall" lawyer types) and gambling places and like things sort of affected the tone of the newscast, which had some useless news, making the newscast sort of gutterish in tone.  A newscast can have a feel or tone.  When you add in the idea that many of the stories really had no value for most persons, the newscast was no great thing, but I have seen worse half-hour newscasts and hour newscasts in Detroit, given what there is to talk about on a particular day or what is being pushed as so-called news, and at least the newscast for the day reviewed showed the crap that Highland Park is, but a person did not need the newscast, per se, to learn that.

Announcement: Recently, I have added some new documents to the collection of my documents at the website for The Hologlobe Press.  One of the documents is entitled A Document that Dispels Myths and Nonsense of Science-Fiction Books, Movies, and Television Shows (A Logic Puzzle), which can be reached through this Myths link.  Another document is And So You Think You're Going to the Moon, Mars, or the Stars..., which can be reached by using this Moon link.  And yet another of the documents is entitled And the Stupid Women Shall Lead--and Lead Every Good Individual into Shit, Driven on by Communism, Feminism, and Defective Female Beliefs and Little-Girl Thinking, which can be reached through this Stupid Women link.  And here are other documents--A Review of What Television Controlled by Socialists and Communists Worked to Sell as Truth in Relation to the U.S. President Donald J. Trump Impeachment (at Impeachment) and T.H.A.T. Special Edition--The First Helicopter-based Traffic Reporters on Radio for the Detroit area of Michigan (at Helicopter Traffic).

Hey, get this!  Since the late 1960s, the "Sesame Street" franchise or thing has become a very rich entity, and it needs no support through donations.  Last month, while I was burning letters and envelopes in a pale for a friend--feeding carbon dioxide to my nearby trees and plants to keep them healthy--I saw my friend had received a please-donate letter from the "Sesame Workshop" entity.  What crap that was! Sesame Street has been a failure, since it teaches children that learning has to be associated with fun and games and happiness and since, for example, about forty-percent of the children in Detroit are handicapped and defective in terms of using English and reading.  And the "Sesame Street" entity pushes socialistic propaganda today!

Have you noticed what is covered in this paragraph?  Years ago or decades ago, it seemed the television stations in the Detroit area had a variety of commercials from local entities, such as car dealerships, grocery stores (such as Kroger's), construction companies, hardware stores, dime stores, clothing stores or department stores, et cetera.  Today, what sticks out in my mind as the main sponsors of local shows, especially newscasts, are law offices.  Recently, I have regularly seen commercials tied to Kajy Law, Sam Bernstein, Lee Steinberg, Mike Morse, Morgan & Morgan, Jeffrey Feiger, and Applebaum & Stone, the last of which seems to be new to the scene and offers up a rather gutter-toned commercial with song.  It is enough for a viewer to call for a cease-and-desist order with the help of Perry Mason.

I present now the regular feature called Looking at the Movies, sort of a television show that looks at movies that were presented by Detroit-based television stations in the early years of the stations, and, this time, I am going to give you a chance to "binge" on a production, sort of like what people do in relation to streaming with modern television shows today.  By the way, the only streaming in the presentation this time is related to streams or rivers, since the production being presented is a Western.  In fact, it is a perfect production to use in a "binge," since the movie is made up of 15 chapters (like episodes of a television series), and, officially, the product is a 1938 movie "serial."  Of course, it was something that got aired on television, too, particularly in the early years of CKLW-TV, Channel 9, and it was presented by a movie host, and that host was not Bill Kennedy or Mary Morgan or Conrad Patrick or Bob Hynes.  The movie host is probably remembered by almost no one today.  On Monday, December 2, 1957, Channel 9 began to run a television series called The Trader Bob Show, and it ran on a Monday-through-Friday basis at 3:30 p.m., and the program presented Westerns, and the show offered up interviews and movies, and the host was Trader Bob, who was played by Bob Longwell.  One of the movies shown by Trader Bob was Flaming Frontiers, which was a 15-part 1938 serial that featured John Mack Brown as Tex Houston (not Houston, Texas), and the story started out with the killing of a Pony Express rider, the theft of $5,000 in gold and a letter (from a guy named Tom Grant), and an attack on a wagon train.  The episodes run about 20 minutes, and so a "binge" could last about three hours.  Today, the serial is available on YouTube.  Some of the other performers in the movie are Eleanor Hansen (as Mary Grant), Ralph Bowman (as Tom Grant), William Royle (as Jim Crosby), Charles Middleton (as Ace Daggett), James Blaine (as Bart Eaton), Charles Stevens (as Breed), and Jack Rutherford (as Buffalo Bill Cody).  What is good about the movie is the names of the main performers are shown with images, and that will help you identify people.  There are others in the cast, a bunch of whom do not get listed with accompanying images.  The series is the type of thing that children saw at the movie theaters, and, in the case of Flaming Frontiers, children did the "binge" thing over 15 weeks, given one chapter was presented each week by a movie theater. The Trader Bob Show only was on the air for a few weeks--about two months, and that is one reason Trader Bob has sort of faded away into the sunset.  Okay, gather the gang together and take a look at Flaming Frontiers as a presentation of Looking at the Movies for this month.

Remember: The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan was a television show that was produced across the pond and shown on CBS-TV in the late 1960s, and I urge you to find The Prisoner on DVD, maybe from a library, and watch it, and you should show it--all the episodes--to teenagers, or buy it as a present for teenagers.

Stay well!

P.S.: You are urged to see my document entitled One of "The Rules of Man"--A Rule About Health Care that No Politician May Supersede with Law, which can be reached through this Rule1 link.  I have deduced that all the Democrats and most Republicans support the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and have no intention of killing it, though it should be killed for violating, for one, "The Rules of Man."  For example, Republicans Jeb Bush and Chris Christie support the rotten law, and that is one reason that I define them as stupid men and not men who are good enough--in this day and age--to be the U.S. President.  I note that the "mandate"--which forces everyone to buy government-approved health-care insurance--violates one of "The Rules of Man," and it is a rule that is attacked in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.  Anyone who supports the "mandate" is not a good enough person or a smart enough person to be the U.S. president--the mandate is "enslavism," and the "mandate" allows government people--who are often usually bad people, as history shows--decide what health care a person can get, and that is bad.
