- - - T.H.A.T., Edition No. 167 - - -

Since I published the previous edition of Television History of Trivia, a friend of mine gave me a hat (sort of like a baseball cap).  On the front of the cap is--"MAKE TELEVISION GREAT AGAIN".  And on the back of the cap, it has--"because our children are watching".  The cap is from the Parents Television Council.  In a way, the cap is one of those "so-what things?".  Television is not going to be great again anytime soon, and the main reason for that is too many of the persons involved in making television shows are socialists or communists, especially in the news departments, and such people are not nice people and such people have a hard time making something nice, given they are so busy pushing social crap, which is usually idiotic stuff or pseudo-intellectual stuff.  The Parents Television Council is working--it seems--to get better stuff for children on television.  Let me back up in time.  In the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, there were many different cartoon shows on television, some of which were cartoons that had originally been shown in movie theaters, such as Bugs Bunny cartoon and Popeye cartoons.  In roughly the 1970s, some people worked to get cartoons makers or distributors to cut out violence in the cartoons, and, for one, it led to editors having to remove scenes from cartoons that had been originally shown in movie theaters.  If a person looks at the cartoons of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, the person will see that, generally speaking, the cartoons of those years had many characters that were at least drawn to be cute or happy.  It is hard to find cartoons made in recent years that have characters that look cute or happy or nice.  For example, look at the Qubo network for use on subchannel channel spots of television stations around the country.  I find most of the prime-time shows on Qubo to have characters that look snarky or unpleasant or whatever.  In the Detroit area, by the way, Qubo appears on Channel 31.2.  Earlier in Qubo history, there seemed to be more likeable things on.  I state that, basically, television will not be "great again" anytime as a whole soon because of the nature of the makers of television programs is not geared to nice and happy, and the Parents Television Council is really going to make no real gains.  Again, here, I have a look what television is today and what it was--it is another edition of Television History and Trivia.

I have already noted that Qubo seems to have less likeable shows (cartoon series mostly) for viewers than it did in the past, and Qubo is not the only subchannel network that has made some changes to the worse.  Let me make it clear--"subchannel network" is a term that I use to describe a network that is designed, for one, to air on "subchannels" or secondary channels of television stations; for instance, WJBK-TV in Detroit, airs on Channel 2.1 (broadcast), and the station also airs material on Channel 2.2, and Channel 2.3, and Channel 2.4.  Subchannels are not true high-definition channels as are main channels can be.  Channel 2.3 airs the Buzzr network, which up to very recently aired old game shows, such as from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, examples of which are What's My Line? and Match Game.  Recently, the network began to carry, in essence, modern game shows on Friday evenings, such as The Celebrity Game (which is hosted by Craig Ferguson).  I find the newer games shows to have fewer likeable persons as celebrity guests or hosts, and now I do not tune into the shows aired on Friday evenings on Buzzr.  Recently, Cozi (a network seen on Channel 38.4 in the Detroit area) began to carry the old Will and Grace series (originally seen on the NBC-TV network), and, for instance, it carries several episodes every weekday--on mornings and evenings.  In truth, I see Will and Grace as a crap show with, for one, unlikeable characters.  The few changes that I have noted--with Qubo, Buzzr, and Cozi--make me wonder if the heyday for subchannels is going to pass away.  Those networks are airings shows--I say--that helped to kill the regular broadcast networks (such as ABC-TV and NBC-TV), since the shows are not likeable or often focus on socialistic crap, and that is especially true with Will and Grace.  I wonder--Will the operators of the subchannel networks go on to program even more of what had helped viewers avoid or become disenchanted with the main broadcast networks over the last few decades?

NBC-TV is a main broadcast network, and in February 2018, the network aired the Olympics from South Korea, airing stuff for about two weeks.  On the second day of broadcasting, I tuned into NBC-TV--at about 8:25 a.m. (it was Saturday, February 10, 2018).  I ended up seeing crap about how gals of South Korea teamed up with gals of North Korea as a hockey team.  The piece pushed out how great it was that the two countries were getting together for hockey, and how the gals were doing what others, such as politicians, were not doing--getting together.  It was bullshit!  I did not tune in to see any more of the Olympic broadcasts on NBC-TV.  I see the piece about the hockey gals of North Korea to be a propaganda piece from NBC-TV, working to sell the idea that North Korea is not so bad.  I state that North Korea is a "shit-hole country," being a communistic country and a country of enslavism.

For several decades, Carmen Harlan was a news reporter and anchor for WDIV-TV.  Recently, I learned Carmen Harland was getting the 2018 Soul and Spirit Humanitarian Award, learning that through an article published in the Detroit Free Press (Riley, Rochelle.  "Amid honor, TV's Harland decries assault on media."  Detroit Free Press, 15 February 2018, p. 5A.) [Note: You can look up what the award is about].  The article published some statements made by Carmen Harlan recently, such as "...The free press is under siege right now....We've got to prove ourselves and be better than we've ever been before, not that we weren't good, because believe me, there wasn't a story that got by me that I didn't check before it went on the air...." and "...But to have the kind of leadership that we have today that likes to call out the press and disrespect the press and minimize the contributions of journalists in our democracy is an assault not just on us.  But it is an assault on our government.  It is an assault on our citizenry, and we can't tolerate that....".  I state that Carmen Harlan's thoughts are idiocy.  For example, I have--through articles that I have available on the Internet--shown the rottenness of the main press in the country over the last roughly ten years, and, for one, I have shown up the rottenness of Rochelle Riley.  Yes, a rotten woman--Rochelle Riley--wrote an article to promote Carmen Harlan's thoughts of garbage.  I state--The attacks on the main media are deserved.  The main media, such as NBC News, has fake news or avoids real news regularly.  Hey, have you seen much about the "Trump Dossier Memo" (related to Devin Nunes of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee) and the "Grassley-Graham Memo" on WDIV-TV or NBC-TV?  You probably have not.  The "memo" shows the corruptness in, for one, the FBI during the Barack Obama years as U.S. president.  Exactly why does Carmen Harland deserve an award?

Carmen Harlan may be gone from WDIV-TV, but others are at the station to pass along useless stuff.  On Monday, February 5, 2018, Sandra Ali (of WDIV-TV) got to do solo hosting of a local special on the television (it was her first).  The special was Black Friday: The Missing Skelton Brothers, which focused on the missing boys of the John and Tanya Skelton family--the boys went missing in November 2010.  I say that, for almost everyone, the one-hour special really had no value.  Yes, Sandra Ali got to put on her resume that she hosted the show, and the management of WDIV-TV got to say--"Look at we did."  And, yes, the lives of the boys is important.  But, really, the special had no real value for viewers--viewers can do nothing about the missing boys, and the information really serves no real use.

On February 28, 2018, Stephen Clark had a last day on duty as a news anchor at WXYZ-HD, Channel 7.1, Detroit.  On that day, the station saluted the newscaster during the 11:00 p.m. newscast.  Really, the station saluted a socialistic newscaster, as I have proved him to be through editions of Television History and Trivia.  By the way, Stephen Clark has a daughter who loves socialism and socialistic places, such as Copenhagen, Denmark, as I showed through T.H.A.T. #164 and T.H.A.T. #163 [Note: To see T.H.A.T. #163 (mostly for the segment about Copenhagen), use this T.H.A.T. #163 link, and to see T.H.A.T. #164, use this T.H.A.T. #164 link].  I have heard Stephen Clark is going to spend more time--during his retirement--being in the music industry, such as in Nashville, Tennessee--on March 6, 2018, I heard for the first time that the mayor of Nashville (a "Democrat" (a.k.a. socialist or communist) had recently resigned for having done rotten things).  It seems Stephen Clark will be at home in Nashville.  [Note: Again I will note--Have you seen how many so-called "country-music" people like socialistic and communistic politicians?  Some decades ago, "country-music" people were not like that as a rule.  The young "country-music" performers of today should not be looked at as good people today, as a rule, given what they support.]

Oh, Stephen Clark was a big supporter of a national health-care system--a communistic system, in which the government gets to decide what health care you get, what health care will cost, how much health care you are allowed to buy, et cetera.  "Obamacare" was something that--in essence--Stephen Clark supported, and it is rotten, pushed along by a rotten man, Barack Obama, and other "Democrats."  Over the years, Stephen Clark did nothing to put down or show up the rottenness of Barack Obama, such as the big scandals, such as the "Benghazi Killing Scandal."  I bet in Stephen Clark's last days at WXYZ-HD, Stephen Clark said nothing about the rotten "PROMISE" program of Barack Obama's, which, for one, pushed for police around the country to under report crime statistics related to blacks.  "The PROMISE Program Scandal" has not been talked about or reported on much in the main media, such as through television, but it is something you should look up.  It shows more of the rottenness in the nature of "Democrats."

Announcement: I have several new documents on the Internet--at the website for The Hologlobe Press.  One document is entitled "Indigenous Peoples Day"--It is Not Deserved and Should Not Exist.  It can be reached by using this Indigenous link.  Another document is entitled Black-Racist U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson (a Democrat related to Florida) Shits on a Killed U.S. Soldier--Army Sergeant La David Johnson (a Black Man), which can be reached through this Frederica Wilson.  In relation to Frederica Wilson, you should see the video on YouTube entitled "John Kelly's EMOTIONAL White House Press Briefing 10/22/2017", which was posted on October 19, 2017, and it runs 21 minutes.  Yet another document is entitled The United States of America is Not "Healthy" Anymore and Never Will Be Again--Stupid Americans by the Millions and Rotten Politicians Like Having the Federal Government in Charge of Health Care, When It Should Never Be, which can be reached through this Not Healthy link.  Also I put a document that is under construction (at the time this document was published on the Internet) at the website for The Hologlobe Press so that I could show the documents listed in the bibliography (and it has a tie-in with this document), and that document is informally called A Collage of Corrupt, which can be reached through this Collage link.

Here is the Looking at the Movies feature for this edition of Television History and Trivia.  When I offer movies in the Looking at the Movies feature, the movies are on YouTube and the quality of the movies is sometimes a little weak, and that is especially true of cowboy-type movies for the 1930s.  This edition of Looking at the Movies has a presentation that I found in high quality.  The movie offered is The Spy in Black, which was made in 1939.  This movie was offered to Detroit television viewers by Channel 2, WJBK-TV, on Saturday, April 23, 1949, at 8:00 p.m.  The movie was made in 1939, and it tells the story of a German U-boat captain who, in 1917, was put ashore on English-controlled land to do harm during World War II.  Some of the performers in The Spy In Black are Conrad Veidt, Valerie Hobson, and Sebastian Shaw.  So got back in time, and pretend it is April 23, 1949, and you are tuning your television set to see the 1939 movie entitled The Spy In Black on WJBK-TV, Channel 2 (one of only three television stations broadcasting in the Detroit area).  Find the movie on YouTube.

Announcement for the novice again (reworked in May 2017): To get useful television-delivered news or Internet-delivered news, WorldNetDaily.com, "The Drudge Report," and CNS News (which is on the Internet and which was launched on June 16, 1998), since the entities do not blindly support Barack Obama-type people (communists and Shariaists), as do CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV (Note: To learn about bad journalism, you might tune in to CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV from time to time to see how they differ from the better places mentioned).  I note that Fox News Channel is evolving into a rotten channel, becoming like those that I have put down in this paragraph.  If you are unclear of my intentions, I say in different words that you should boycott CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV and even now much of what is on the Fox News Channel and hope they lose more ratings and advertising revenues, since they are expendable, and it is time for you to find the guts to be mean and heartless and cancel them--since they are hurting you.  [Note: Everyone in the Democratic Party in the country is rotten, and the Republican Party establishment has shown itself to be socialistic and communistic within the last few years, and only a few of the rotten people are U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senator John McCain, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie.]

And the bad shows keep on coming!  On Monday, March 5, 2018, I caught two lackluster new series.  One series was Living Biblically, which was shown by CBS-TV, starting at 9:30 p.m. (Detroit time).  It was not necessarily a bad first episode, but the episode was flat and looked staged, and the wife of the main character was ugly, and in the episode, one of the guest stars was Sara Gilbert (of The View), and Sara Gilbert looked very ill and ugly.  Next--at 10:00 p.m.--NBC-TV pushed out the first episode of Good Girls, and it came off as a bad and ugly show, having three ugly and unlikeable main characters (women) and nothing worth seeing from week to week, and, by the way, many of the above-the-line-production people for the episode were women (in essence, a bunch of women made a bad show).

Oh, recently, I was watching the subchannel network known as Buzzr, and I was watching an episode of Beat the Clock (from the 1950s), which was or is a game show featuring Bud Collyer as the emcee.  Buzzr played the old episode with some original commercials, since the commercials were done in the show originally.  One commercial was from Sylvania (a maker/seller of television sets), and the commercial was pitching the idea that a child could get at free "Buck Rogers Space Ranger Kit," if the child was taken by the parents to see new Sylvania television sets for sale at stores.  The kit had cool stuff!  It had an interplanetary space phone set, a space ranger helmet, a denigrator gun, and a little space ship (which makes sounds when you spin it around and around).  To me, it looked like fun stuff for children, and it was something good.  Where is the fun for children today?

On Sunday, February 11, 2018, I happened to tune in to a new television shows on WADL-TV, Channel 38.1--the program was nearly done when I caught it.  The show is Lit, and it has Chuck Bennett and Chef Bobby as hosts, and the show is a talk show.  Visually the program was quite passable, even though it is a local production.  The first episode had a house band--The Motor City Horns (John Rutherford, Justin Walter, Keith Kaminsky, Robert Mervak, Takashi Lio, and Jason Gittinger).  The show is a weekly show it seems.  I cannot say anymore, given I only saw the last bit of the first show.  Take a look for yourself.

Remember: The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan was a television show that was produced across the pond and shown on CBS-TV in the late 1960s, and I urge you to find The Prisoner on DVD, maybe from a library, and watch it, and you should show it--all the episodes--to teenagers, or buy it as a present for teenagers.

Stay well!

Vic

P.S.: You are urged to see my document entitled One of "The Rules of Man"--A Rule About Health Care that No Politician May Supersede with Law, which can be reached through this Rule1 link.  I have deduced that all the Democrats and most Republicans support the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and have no intention of killing it, though it should be killed for violating, for one, "The Rules of Man."  For example, Republicans Jeb Bush and Chris Christie support the rotten law, and that is one reason that I define them as stupid men and not men who are good enough--in this day and age--to be the U.S. President.  I note that the "mandate"--which forces everyone to buy government-approved health-care insurance--violates one of "The Rules of Man," and it is a rule that is attacked in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.  Anyone who supports the "mandate" is not a good enough person or a smart enough person to be the U.S. president--the mandate is "enslavism," and the "mandate" allows government people--who are often and usually bad people, as history shows--decide what health care a person can get, and that is bad.
