Around 1977, I was involved in putting together a constitution for a student-run radio station at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, and that station was WAYN-AM, and I remember how I was involved in discussions with others about how the constitution should be structured; for example, we talked about, if such and such happened, what action could be taken or what might then be done. My working on creating a constitution was in no way as involved as the work that had been done by the Founders of the United States of America when they had created a constitution for the country in the 1700s, in which they must have spent countless hours thinking and debating such topics as, if such and such happened, what action could be taken or what might then be done, and, of course, they had have been highly focused on creating a document for a country in which the people would own the government and the people would not be owned by the government, and what they had done was work to create a document that could or would protect people from those who might wish to be dictators or enslavers of the people. Given that information, I can say that I have been seriously involved--though only once--in creating a "constitution." The State of Michigan has a constitution, and it is the main rule structure of the State of Michigan, and, every sixteen years, the people of Michigan are able to vote on whether or not to create a new constitution for the state. In November 2010, the people of Michigan will be voting in an election that will have as one proposal--a proposal to set up a "constitutional convention" and make a new constitution for the State of Michigan. Once the new constitution is devised, the people of the state will sometime later have an opportunity to vote on whether or not to adopt the constitution.
I have for sometime been saying that what we are living in today is "The Pseudo Information Age and the Age of Ignorance," and, in this day and age, I say that the people of Michigan should reject any attempt to fully change The Michigan Constitution, and this document gives my reasons why the people of Michigan should reject even setting up a "constitutional convention."
The reason that no "constitutional convention" should be set up in this day and age is, I say, there would very likely not be enough smart and honorable people--like the Founding Fathers of the country--picked to be members of a "constitutional convention" that would lead to setting up and creating a constitution that would be worthwhile, and this statement I now back up with pieces of thought, which you should study.
(1) On January 20, 2010, Barack Obama became the President of the United States of America, and since then, people have been learning that Barack Obama is a communist, Marxist, et cetera, though a least a few persons, such as me, knew he was a communist, Marxist, et cetera before the election was scheduled to take place in November 2008. Since January 20, 2010, Barack Obama has done much that has already hurt the United States of America, such as spending great amounts of money that should not have spent and putting people in federal jobs who are Maoists, communists, tax cheats, sexual deviants, et cetera, and Barack Obama has done things that shows that he is an "enslaver" or that he likes to have a government in which people are enslaved by government, and he has made friends with enslavers, such as Fidel Castro (of Cuba) and Hugh Chavez (of Venezuela). Since Barack Obama, who is defective and dishonorable, has power to influence who may be able to end up as a member of a "constitutional convention" in Michigan, I say that this is one reason no "constitutional convention" should not be set up in this day and age.
(2) On March 11, 2010, it became public knowledge that the Democrats in the U.S. Congress, such as U.S. Representative Louise Slaughter (a Democrat related to New York), who was the chairman of the "Rules Committee" of the U.S. House of Representatives, had created what was called the "Slaughter Solution," which they hoped could be used to pass a national-health-care bill through the U.S. Congress. Generally speaking, every bill that goes through the U.S. Congress must be voted on by both houses of the U.S. Congress (the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate). In December 2009, the U.S. Senate had passed a health-care bill, and on March 11, 2010, people learned the "Slaughter Solution" would soon have the U.S. House of Representatives sort of vote on the health-care bill of the U.S. Senate by voting not on the bill proper but on a rule change that would, in essence, say that they deemed that they had passed the health-care bill of the U.S. Senate. For the Democrats to even propose such an action or to even talk about such an action shows the Democrats of today are dangerous to the United States of America and The U.S. Constitution, since they are willing to throw aside the rules of The U.S. Constitution for their own rules, which can change from day to day. Today, The U.S. Constitution is under attack by those within the country--even within the federal government--and since the country is under attack, the people of Michigan should be focused on protecting the country and not on protecting the country from radicals and watching over the creation of a new constitution for the State of Michigan.
Incidentally, on Friday, March 12, 2010, Andrea Mitchell of NBC News made this statement to U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings in relation to passing a health-care bill: "...The bottom line--What happens if you don't get health care for this President? Is, this is really all or nothing for the defense of his power, his legacy. He's put, he's invested so much in this, in this first year. You've got to get this for him!...." Notice how Andrea Mitchell was not concerned with "constitutionality" of the proposed action--using the "Slaughter Solution"--to pass a health-care bill; Andrea Mitchell was more concerned about Barack Obama and Barack Obama's legacy than The U.S. Constitution. (The answer was: "Andrea, I agree with you a million percent.")
(3) Generally speaking, the media in the United States of America is filled with "liberals," who are communists, socialists, Marxists, fascists, "progressives," et cetera, and "liberal" people who work in the media are truly unreliable and untrustworthy, and that statement is backed up by the fact that many members of the main media, such as employees at NBC News and MSNBC, did not expose to the American public the radicalness of Barack Obama before the election of November 2008 and they have not be reporting on the radicalness of Barack Obama and his policies since January 20, 2008, and given that information, the media in Michigan, such as the liberal-based Detroit Free Press, cannot be trusted to report properly the good and the bad of any proposed constitution for the State of Michigan, and because many in the main media will very likely not report properly the good and the bad about a proposed constitution, the people of Michigan will be uninformed about the proposed constitution and probably make defective votes on a constitution.

(4) Since the early days of this new century at least, Michigan has been in a recession or a depression, and, for the last seven years or so, Jennifer Granholm, who is a socialist, has been the governor of Michigan, and Jennifer Granholm has been hurting the growth private business in the state through her policies, such as by promoting only things that help in saving the Earth from "manmade climate change" (or "manmade global warming"), which has been shown to be a hoax and a lie and something that has been pushed on the world by communists (you should see my document entitled "CAP AND TRADE" and Carbon Dioxide Facts and Nonsense, which can be reached by using this link: Carbon). Jennifer Granholm has been pushing the idea that the state should be a leader of "green jobs," such as making batteries for electric cars, what ever "green jobs." Jennifer Granholm as the governor would have clout in helping to determine who would be a part of a "constitutional convention," and that is bad for the state and for the future of the state.
(5) Democrats have been in charge of Detroit since the 1960s at least, and since the 1970s, Detroit has been in steady decline--morally and economically--and, today, the unemployment rate for Detroit is above twenty percent and the illiteracy rate about fifty percent, and, in fact, Detroit is a dead city (you are urged to see my document entitled Detroit and Death: A View of a Future United States of America, which can be reached by using this link: Detroit). The politicians of Detroit would be involved in helping to determine what people might become members of a "constitutional convention," and those politicians, many of whom are socialists, such as Ken Cockrel, Jr., who is the son of Ken Cockrel, Sr., who was a proclaimed socialist and was involved in Detroit politics around the 1960s, would be working to put people into the "constitution convention" who would put in policies and rules in a constitution that would not benefit the citizens but benefit politicians. Detroit has too many bad people who would influence the creation of bad constitution for the State of Michigan.
(6) Besides Detroit, Michigan has a number of other dead cities or nearly dead cities, some of which are Benton Harbor, Flint, Pontiac, Highland Park, and Ecorse, and people from those failed cities or towns with their failed political ideas would help determine who gets to be members of a "constitutional convention," and that is bad.
By the way, on December 7, 2008, Coleman Young, Jr., was a State Representative related to Detroit, and he hosted his television show called The Young Effect on Channel 33 (analog), WHPR-TV, Detroit, and, on that show, Coleman Young, Jr., said that he supported what I call nonsense--"conditionsal cash transfers," which is a "progressive" idea or a liberal idea, and it is an idea in which the state should pay money to students for learning to read, and the "conditional cash transfers" idea is something that "liberals" (and the like) would surely like to put into a constitution for the State of Michigan, and that is a bad idea.
(7) A lot of people in Michigan voted for Barack Obama in the election of November 2008, and they voted for him because of some reason, and since November 2008, some of the people have realized they made an error in their vote, which was partially based on bad information about Barack Obama or no information about Barack Obama from the media, and although some people have come to regret that they voted for Barack Obama, too many people yet exist in the state who are poorly informed about politics and what a constitution is or should be, and because of that, it is very likely too many people who know nothing about politics and what a constitution should be would vote for something that is defective, and that would be bad for the future of the state.
(8) The State of Michigan has too many bad U.S. Representatives or U.S. Senators who would influence who might become members of a "constitutional convention." U.S. Representative John Conyers is a communist, and, in 2009, Monica Conyers, his wife, had to resign from the city council of Detroit because of a scandal, and, in March 2010, Monica Conyers was sentenced to thirty-seven months in prison on a felony charge involving bribery. U.S. Senator Carl Levin and U.S. Representative Sander Levin highly support Barack Obama, and they are at least socialists. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow does not like the "First Amendment" of The U.S. Constitution,, and it is evident she is a proponent of censorship in the media, especially if that media are "conservative" talk-show hosts (and you should see my document entitled Fairness?: A Guide for the Individual in the United States of America, which can be reached by using this link: Fairness).
I have heard some reasons why The Michigan Constitution should be changed. One reason that I have heard is it should be changed is so that the number of counties can be reduced, but that is not important to fix in this day and age when the country is under assault by the President of the United States of America--Barack Obama. Another reason is that townships should be merged through a changing of The Michigan Constitution, but that is not reason enough to change The Michigan Constitution. I have heard that the state government is "broken," but to change a constitution because someone says that the government is "broken" is a bad idea, and, anyway, I say that what is "broken" at the capitol is it has too many communists and socialists, who have been voted in over the years, such as Coleman Young, Jr.
I say that, maybe, in sixteen years, enough good and honorable people could be found in Michigan--who wished not to be "kings' or "queens" or "presidents for life"--to create a good constitution for Michigan (George Washington balked at being a "king" or a multi-term U.S. President for the United States of America), but, for now, I say that it is better to work with what exists, even if it is flawed, though it may not be as flawed as many might persuade you to believe.
