- - - Travel Thoughts for Everyone - - -

On Monday, May 16, 2011, I traveled from Cheboygan (Michigan) to Petoskey (Michigan), where on the next day, a friend of mine was going to have a complete knee-replacement operation.  While heading to Petoskey, I ended up behind an EMS vehicle--based in Sault Ste. Marie (Michigan)--at Alanson and ended up following the vehicle all the way to Petoskey, particularly Northern Michigan Hospital; the EMS vehicle was in no hurry it seemed, and one proof of that is the vehicle had no sirens blaring or lights flashing on and off.  The next day, the knee surgery took place, and all went well, and on Wednesday, my friend ended up with a roommate, a woman from Drummond Island (Michigan), and she was a woman who had been driven to the hospital from Sault Ste. Marie on Monday in an EMS vehicle.  The woman was Maxine Bailey, who was seventy-two years of age and had had a small stroke, which left her with a bit of weakness on her right side and made it a little difficult for her to control her right hand when she worked to hold a fork or spoon.  I learned over the next two days through talking with her--I was not doing any interviewing as you might expect from a person with a broadcasting background--and I learned she had a husband, daughters, grandchildren, et cetera, and I learned she was the last person to be born on Lime Island, which is sort of in the water halfway between Raber (Mackinac County, Michigan, the United States of America) and St. Joseph Island (Ontario, Canada).  Lime Island can only be reached by boat, and tourists do go there, though not a lot of tourists or not as many as go to the well-known Mackinac Island.  One reason people could go to Lime Island is to see--what was described to me by Maxine Bailey--a little restored one-room schoolhouse that is a museum, which Maxine Bailey attended years ago.  The schoolhouse seems to have no formal title--it is simply considered the Lime Island Schoolhouse.  If you go fishing at Lime Island or near it, you might take some moments to see the Lime Island Schoolhouse.

Advertisement: The commercial in this edition of Michigan Travel Tips urges you to get a copy of Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, which is a book written by Mark R. Levin.  This book will help you understand better what Barack Obama is--a man who is purposely hurting the country, even though he is the president of the country--but the book is really about enslavers--politicians--who do not believe in the values of The U.S. Constitution and how The U.S. Constitution is designed to limit the power of the government, especially a dictatorship, over the individual (the citizen).  Remember: In the United States of America, it is the individuals who own the government and not the government that owns the citizens, the latter of which is what Barack Obama wants and is pushing for.

I did not report to Maxine Bailey that I promote tourism in Michigan through the Web site for The Hologlobe Press--particularly editions of Michigan Travel Tips or that I had done a lot of work while an employee at AAA Michigan (or Michigan AAA) of promoting tourism in Michigan--and since I had not, I use this edition of Michigan Travel Tips as a vehicle through which I will give Maxine and you a few places that you should consider seeing this summer or fall.  In T.H.A.T. #86, which was published on the same day that this edition of Michigan Travel Tips was published, I talk a bit about the 1943-released movie entitled Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon, which featured, for one, Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes (and to see T.H.A.T. #86, you can use this T.H.A.T. #86 link), and I note here that Basil Rathbone is in no way tied to a place called the Rathbone Schoolhouse, which is in Eagle Harbor of Keweenaw County (of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and is a tourist attraction, though not something like an amusement park with various rides.  The schoolhouse got the name from Justus Rathbone, the first teacher to use the building to teach children decades ago, such as those related to men working in copper mines of the Keweenaw Peninsula in the 1800s.  Of course, while Maxine Bailey was in the hospital room with my friend, it seems very likely to me her mind in no way thought about what she was missing seeing in the Petoskey area, but that is the way it was expected by me to be.  By the way, I did see improvement in Maxine Bailey's condition over the roughly two days that I was able to observe her.  At Petoskey, in water of Little Traverse Bay, is something called the "Underwater Crucifix," and along the bay is a 26-mile-long trail for bikers and hikers or walkers, and along the trail at one point is Indian Mission Church.  In Harbor Springs, which is in the Petoskey area, are a history museum, the Ephraim Shay House, and the Black Bird Museum.

Promotional announcement: The Landmark Legal Foundation is made up of lawyers, such as Mark R. Levin (of The Mark Levin Show, a nationally syndicated radio show), who fight in court cases against those who do not uphold The U.S. Constitution and the rule of law for the country, and the Landmark Legal Foundation fights for the rights of the individual and against Marxists, communists, and the like.  In this day and age when Barack Obama, who I am convinced has a truly highly ill mind, is going against the rules of the country while pursuing a goal--I believe--to hurt the country and remake it or destroy it, I believe the Landmark Legal Foundation needs your help desperately; for example, retired lawyers who want to protect the country should consider donating time to helping the Landmark Legal Foundation.  I urge you to avoid making any donations to entities that promote manmade global warming or climate change and make a donation to the Landmark Legal Foundation instead (by the way, you should look into supporting the Heritage Foundation).

Maxine Bailey was taken out of the hospital room where my friend was so that she could be taken to a rehabilitation area, where she would work to improve her control of her body, especially the right side of her body, and, of course, I had no information about how long she would be in the rehabilitation area before she would be allowed to return to Drummond Island, where she lives.  Certainly, once home, her mind would not be set on planning trips to see the sights on Drummond Island that visitors might wish to see, but she might plan to spend some time fishing so that she could get out of the house.  At Drummond Island, some of the tourist attractions are the Drummond Island Historical Society Museum and Arnold's Landing Resort, where vacationers can stay and which has, for instance, boats to go fishing for rent.

And if you see Maxine Bailey, say "hello" for me.

Enjoy your safe traveling in Michigan!

    Stay well!

    Victor

P.S. #1: Remember: While you travel in Michigan, remind your children or grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any politician or sing the praises of Barack Obama, and to help you remember other matters that you should teach children about bad politicians, such as Barack Obama (who can be described as an "enslaver"), see such other documents of mine as Conservatism for Children and What Conservatism Means (which can be reached through this link: Conservatism) and Lessons for Children about Politics and Dangerous People (which can be reached through this link: Children). (Note: I first passed along the subject of not being a "servant to Obama" and the like in the publication entitled T.H.A.T. #58, which can be reached through this link: T.H.A.T. #58.)
