- - - T.H.A.T., Edition No. 88 - - -

If you are a young person, you are unaware of how much better television was in the mid-nineteen hundreds than it is today--and it was better in the sense that programs of the past were more likable than programs of today.  I have to admit I have not been watching much of, for instance, the entertainment television shows on the broadcast networks this summer, such as Big Brother and Same Name, except to get sample credits, since so many people on the shows are unlikable, and then when I take into account the so many evil news pundits and newscasters on the political-based shows on Sunday morning,  the unlikableness factor shoots up really high.  I guess the theme of this edition of T.H.A.T. is tied to likableness and unlikableness.

On Sunday, July 31, 2011, the most-recent former governor of Michigan--Jennifer Granholm--took part in the round-table discussion on Meet the Press with David Gregory (which airs weekly on NBC-TV), and no matter when I see Jennifer Granholm on television, she rattles off nonsense thought and passes on defective knowledge and teaches crap, which makes her highly unlikable, and she did just that on this day.  Look at one thing that Jennifer Granholm said: "Well, obviously, he [Barack Obama] wants to make sure we don't see an extension of this debate for the next few months--we want to make sure it's taken care of.  He, obviously, has said that we don't want to do further damage to the economy and that you have to have a balanced approach.  But, honestly, ah, in listening to, um, my colleague over here--not my colleague, but the colleagues of others in the House, and I appreciate being here with you--we are just talking past one another, and the reality is what has to happen is that the, I think the Tea Party members have to recongnize that they read the tea leaves wrong in November--that people sent them here to change but change the economy and not, not, not put us into default, not bad change, not exacerbate the problem, but change the economy by focusing on jobs.  People were angry about the jobs.  The Friday GDP results only inflates that.  But now what they're doing, it's, it's, it's, um, it is so irresponsible.  So they need to, they, um, I believe the President will accept the deal as it's been outlined.  Obviously, he's in the room and negotiating heavily.  But in the end, what has to happen is that there must be a focus on jobs, and that's going to require some investment."  These words from Jennifer Granholm show off an ugly woman--a woman with a evil mind; for example, she lied about why voters sent Republicans, especially "conservatives," to the U.S. Congress through the election of November 2010, and she lied by saying that the Republicans are acting in an "irresponsible" manner in the "debt ceiling" negotiations because they are leading to events in which the country will go into default, though the country would not go to default if the "debt ceiling" was not raised soon (the predicted target date if the "debt ceiling" was not raised was at the time August 2, 2011), and she pushed the idea that the federal goverment has to spend more money to lead to the creation of more jobs--and that is top-level crap thought.  Jennifer Granholm also passed along the highly defective idea that cutting government spending does not result in economic growth, and she said other nonsense, such as "...If we do nothing more than just cut, that will continue to accelerate the lack of growth in GDP...." Yes, Jennifer Granholm--a socialist at least--is one of the highly ugly and unlikable women on television today.

Oh, here is a side note related to Jennifer Granholm's thought that Barack Obama is "...negotiating heavily...." in relation to the "debt ceiling' issue.  On Tuesday, July 12, 2011, Mitch McConnell: said on the U.S. Senate floor: "...After years of discussions and months of negotiatons, I have little question that as long as this President is in the Oval Office, a real solution is probably unattainable...."  On Tuesday, July 12, 2011, John Boehner at a press event said: "...The fact is that House Republicans have a plan.  We passed our budget back in the spring and outlined our priorities.  Where's the President's plan?  When is he going to lay his cards on the table?  This, ah, debt limit increase is his problem, and I think it's time for him to lead by putting his plan on the table or something that the Congress can pass...."  By the way, in relation to the "debt-ceiling" issue, Barack Obama never served up formal presentation with his plans noted.

I am now going to go back in time and tell two stories.  In the early 1960s--I believe--though it could have been in the mid-1960s, I got to spend a week or so in the summer with grandparents (my mother's parents) in St. Joseph, Michigan.  From that city, it was possible to see television programs broadcast from Chicago, Illinois, and while spending that week or so at St. Joseph, I happened to see a program produced in Chicago that aired within it a syndicated serial, and while spending that week or so at St. Joseph, I saw only a few segments of the serial.  Since then, I have always wondered what that syndicated serial was or is and what it was or is about.  Well, on July 12, 2011, I finally learned what the serial was or is, and it was Rick Klein, who heads www.fuzzymemories.tv, who provided the answer, and the reason that he could provide the answer is he is, in essence, knowledgeable about Chicago television history, as I am knowledgeable about Detroit television history.  Rick Klein reported to me that the serial is Journey to the Beginning of Time, and the serial got aired by WGN-TV during the locally produced show called Garfield Goose and Friends.  On July 12, 2011, I learned, such as through an article on Wikipedia.com, that Journey to the Beginning of Time, was a movie put in serial form that had taken footage from a 1955 Czechoslovakia film (entitled Cesta do Proveka, which had been made by Karel Zeman) and put it in between material produced by William Cayton in the U.S., and on July 12, 2011, I saw the movie as a presentation on YouTube.  Basically, the film starts with material from William Cayton in which four boys go to the American Museum of Natural History, New York City, New York (and, in essence, we never see the faces of the boys and we see only the backs of them as they are walking away from the camera), and then the film jumps to the Czech material in which four boys (now seen fully) take a boat ride on a river (for the most part) back in time, way past the days of the dinosaurs, and this section of the film is the bulk of the film, and then the film ends with material from William Cayton.  The middle material was dubbed in English, by the way.  So now after about fifty years, I know what the serial was or is and what it was or is about; I wondered about it all the those years, having been intrigue as a little boy by the dinosaurs images that had been put in my mind.  Oh, the serial--as far as I know at this date--was not shown on a Detroit television station.  At this moment, I have a big problem yet to solve about the movie.  Wikipedia.com said (on July 12, 2011) that Journey to the Beginning of Time was put together by William Cayton for distribution to television stations in 1965; however, during the opening of the film, it is noted--"c. 1960 Radio & Television Packages."   I strongly believe I saw the serial--parts of it--in the early 1960s and not in the mid-1960s, but, maybe, I did see it in the mid-1960s.  But the copyright date does note "1960."  To see something that at least some children saw on television in the 1960s, look for Journey to the Beginning of Time (featuring the characters called Joe (or Jo-Jo), Ben, Tony, and Doc) on YouTube.

Advertisement: In March 2009, a book called Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, which had been written by Mark R. Levin, was published.  Through the book, Mark R. Levin talks about how tyranny has been creeping into the country, and he also talks about how the country has been changing from a representative republic, which has a constitution as a basis, to something, yet to be defined, and although Mark R. Levin says that it is the statist who is causing the change, especially those who are a part of the Democratic Party and in government jobs, I say that it is communists, socialists, would-be dictators, and Marxists, such as Barack Obama, who are making the changes, such as by discarding The U.S. Constitution.  I urge you to see and read Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, and pass it on to others, especially teenagers and young adults (and consider listening to The Mark Levin Show, the nationally syndicated radio show, on a regular basis).

On June 6, 2011, Scott Pelley began to host CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley on weekday evenings for CBS-TV, and it is evident that he supports an evil man--Barack Obama.  On Tuesday, July 12, 2011, CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, Barack Obama said: "...I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3, if we haven't resolve this issue, because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it...."  The statement--which is a big-time lie--was not challenged by Scott Pelley.  If you see the entry for "Tuesday, July 12, 2011" in my document entitled Nonsense Statements and Quotations of Barack Obama (which can be reached by using the link at the end of this document), you will see that, if the debt ceiling was not raised, the country would not go into default and not be able to pay outstanding "debt" that has to be paid, which is interest on outstanding debt, which amounts to about $29-billion a month, given that each month the federal government takes in about $200-billion.  For now, you can see now defective Scott Pelley is as a news source, given he did not challenge Barack Obama on the wrong information that Barack Obama passed along.

Announcement for the novice again: To get useful television-delivered news or Internet-delivered news, go to Fox News Channel, WorldNetDaily.com, "The Drudge Report," and CNS News (which is on the Internet and which was launched on June 16, 1998), since the entities do not blindly support Barack Obama, as do CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV (to learn about bad journalism, you might tune in to CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV from time to time to see how they differ from the Fox News Channel and those mentioned with it in presenting political stories and events, and you should discover CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV avoid covering things that make Barack Obama look bad or show his true nature, which could harm you).  If you are unclear of my intentions, I say in different words that you should boycott CNN, MSNBC, NBC-TV, CBS-TV, and ABC-TV and hope they lose more ratings and advertising revenues, since they are expendable, and it is time for you to find the guts to be mean and heartless and cancel them--since they are hurting you.

Did you favorite television newscaster, such as Devin Scillian (who was one of the big topics of the previous edition of T.H.A.T.), give you the information that is in this section?  On Wednesday, July 13, 2011, the Budget Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives held a hearing, and at one point, U.S. Represenative Tim Huelskamp (a Republican related to Kansas) was talking with the Chief Actuary related to the Social Security Aministration--Stephen Goss.  Here is a portion of the interview, and the theme is Social Security checks, especially who makes the decision about whether they are sent out or not:
Tim Huelskamp: "...And, ah, eh, eh, folks at the Social Security Administration have they asked that question?  I mean you're, you're gonna be asked--When do you cut those checks and, dah, and when are you told not to cut those checks?"
Stephen Goss: "Well, the responsibility of the Social Security Administration per se, ah, my boss, ah, Commissioner Astrue, is to in fact determine how much in the way of benefit payments people are supposed to receive, and we send that information actually over to the Department of Treasury.  They're the ones that actually send out the payment whether it's.electronic funds transfer or check...."
Tim Huelskamp: "Can I ask you to ask the Treasury Department because the Administration just really doesn't want to provide information--and when you stand on the evening news and make a statement, ah, that forty-some-million Americans are gonna not receive their checks--could you ask the Administration, nah, are they planning on withholding those checks and is there reason they wouldn't make those payments on August 3?"
Stephen Goss: "...I'd be happy to join you in raising that question."
    Tim Huelskamp: "Very good...."
The head of the U.S. Department of Treasury is Tim Geithner--a tax cheat--who gained his job by being appointed to the job by Barack Obama, who said (for CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley) on July 12, 2011, that he could not be certain Social Security checks would go out if the debt ceiling was not raised, and Barack Obama is Tim Geither's boss and can order, in essence, Tim Geither what he wants done (see the entry for "Tuesday, July 12, 2011" of my document entitled Nonsense Statements and Quotations of Barack Obama, which can be reached by using this link: Quotes).

Public Service Announcement: If you wish to avoid giving a donation to nonprofit groups that support "manmade global warming" legislation or "manmade climate-change" legislation, such as the very bad American Clean Energy and Security Act (which is also known as the Waxman-Markey Bill), give to something better--particularly the Heritage Foundation and the Landmark Legal Foundation, which are organizations that support The U.S. Constitution and are working to defeat Barack Obama's plans to take over the country.   (You should see my document entitled "CAP AND TRADE" and Carbon Dioxide Facts and Nonsense, which can be reached through this link: Carbon.)

In Detoit, there are a lot of useless or dumb or evil news anchors, and some of those are Huel Perkins (of WJBK-TV), Devin Scillian (of WDIV-TV), and Stephen Clark (of WXYZ-TV), the latter of whom will forever be known in my mind as a man who pushed for a government-controlled health-care system for the country through a week-long series of reports on health care, and, in essence, the big-name newscasters of Detroit cannot be trusted to make you smarter about the bad that Barack Obama and the members of the Democrat Party are doing to you.  Let me show you something that newscasters most likely did not present to you related to raising the "debt ceiling," which was a big topic of debate in Washington, D.C. in July 2011 and very early August 2011.  On Monday, July 25, 2011, Mark R. Levin intervewed Michael McConnell (a law professor at the Stanford Law School and a former member of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 10th District) on his nationally sydicated radio show (The Mark Levin Show).  Look at some words that Michael McConnell spoke:
"...Now, in general, that really doesn't help our budget situation, but it does mean, ah, that the debt ceiling is not, ah, a problem, ah, for Social Security, because if we were to hit the debt ceiling, all that the Social Securities trustees need to do is to turn in, ah, some of their, ah, Treasury Securities for cash, which they can then use to, to pay off their obligations, and as they do that, that will lower, ah, the total number of U.S. Treasuries outstanding, and thus, the Treasury can just turn right around a simultaneously, ah, sell new bonds to other people to make that up, and that would not violate the debt ceiling.  The debt ceiling doesn't say that the Treasury can't sell new Treasury, ah, Securities--what it says is it can't increase the total amount of debt."
"..Almost dollar for dollar.  There's, ah, an almost trivial amount of money involved in, ah, the accrued interest on, on the bonds, but it's almost dollar for dollar."
"...And for purposes of the debt ceiling, ah, Social Security is, ah, essentially irrelevant."
"...Ah, one of Congress's powers, ah--just like it has the power to tax and it has the power to, to declare war and it has the power to pass criminal laws--one of its powers is to decide, ah, how much, um, money the United States is going to power.  The President simply cannot do it without congressional authorization.  The debt ceiling is just the modern way we have of, ah, Congress exercising that power.  It used to be that everytime an individual program--in like building, ah, a new fort or something, ah, and building the Navy up--ah, everytime there would be a new program, Congress would literally authorize the bonds that were necessary to do that.  But, ah, sometime around World War I, just to make things easier, ah, instead of having a bond-by-bond authorization, Congress started, ah, enacting legislation authorization the Executive [the. U.S. President] to borrow up to a certain level, and that's, that level--that authorization level--is called the debt ceiling."
"...Government shutdowns are not, ah, the end of the world.  That's what we're really facing."
So, your favorite newscaster probably did not make it clear that not increasing the debt ceiling does not put Social Security payments in jeopardy, as Barack Obama was at the time trying to push as fact and truth.

A reminder (updated): Remember to tell your children and grandchildren that they should never pledge to be a "servant to Obama" or a servant to any president, which was a topic in T.H.A.T. #58, and remember to tell them to not blindly "believe" in leaders, and that is a lesson in this edition of T.H.A.T., as it was in the past and will be in the future.  By the way, remember, in the "Presidential Video," which is one topic of T.H.A.T. #58, one male says, "I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama."; one female says, "I pledge to be a servant to our president."  And make sure your children and grandchildren are not singing songs at school that praise Barack Obama, which has been done by children at some schools around the country since January 2009, since children should never sing songs that praise any politician, especially a megalomaniac and narcissist like Barack Obama.

On Friday, August 5, 2011, U.S. Senator John Kerry (a Democrat related to Massachusetts) was on Morning Joe (a weekday program on MSNBC) as a guest.  One thing he said was: "...I mean we literally, everybody's talked about it, yes, the Congress was taken hostage, the country, the economy was taken hostage.  You had people there [in the U.S. Congress] who were literally ready to cut the baby in half.  I have heard a lot of criticism of the President.  Frankly, the President had no choice here. Congress had no choice here.  We did the same thing the President had to do, which is save America from a default, because a default would have been far more disastrous.  What we had was a group of people who are competely, ah, unaware or didn't care about the consequences of their actions.  They were actually arguing for a default, which would have been even more catastrophic with respect to what's happening in Europe and what's happening here at home now. So we have to break that.  And I have to tell ya--I say this to you politely--the media in America has a bigger responsibility than it's exercising today.  The media has got to begin to not give equal time or equal balance to an absolutely absured notion just because somebody asserts it or simply because somebody says something which everybody knows is not factual, it doesn't deserve the same credit as a legitimate idea about what you do.  And the problem is everything's put in to this tit for tat equal battle and America is losing any sense of, of what's real, of who is accountable, of who is not accountable, of who's real, who isn't...."  When you analyze the words spoken by John Kerry, you are able to determine the type of man John Kerry is.  First, the topic referred to was the raising or not raising of the "debt ceiling," and I have already reported that the country was not going to go into default if the "debt ceiling" was not raised--John Kerry lied.  Second, "Tea Party" people are people who support following the ways of The United States Constitution, which was designed to make a federal government in which no person could be come like a dictator of the country, and John Kerry is a U.S. Senator, and John Kerry as a U.S,. Senator promoted through his statement that media people should not report on what "Tea Party" people have for ideas for the country, such as stopping the government from making the federal debt greater and greater, knowing such as an act can actually cause an economic crash and a true default.  So, what you have in John Kerry is a man who is a piece of crap of a man since John Kerry lies, promotes censorship of "Tea Party" people, and, as a whole, promotes tyranny.   And then, in the evening of August 5, 2011, people began to hear that Standard & Poor's had downgraded the bond worthiness of the U.S., dropping the rating from "AAA" to "AA+" and giving the federal government of the country a "negative" further outlook.

Fun time is here!  I have to admit there is not much on television that is fun or likable today, but I reacquainted myself with something fun recently.  I was looking at music videos on YouTube, and I came across the song called "Breakout" that was a hit for a musical group based in England known as Swing Out Sister.  The group's song was a hit in very late 1986 in England and in very early 1987 in the United States of America.  I hope you will call it up and look at it, since the song is lighthearted, and visual presentation is likeable and even sweet, especially the lead singer, a woman named Corinne Drewery.  To see the video, use "Swing Out Sister - Breakout" as the search term.  I think you will come away with a good feeling upon seeing it.  Have fun!

Oh, on Friday, August 5, 2011, NBC-TV showed the first two episodes of Friends with Benefits, a new "comedy" series or sitcom.  I did not like the people or the tone of the show.  And it was another series set in Chicago, that hub for communists and socialists and such.

Also, in the evening of Thurdsay, August 4, 2011, Planet Green showed the three-episode show called Detroit in Overdrive, and I did not see it, and I wonder if some people who saw the title of the series were influenced into thinking that Detroit is on the move toward getting better, which is wrong.

Let me nearly end this edition of T.H.A.T. by taking you back in time once again to sort of salute a woman, who is probably forgotten by almost everyone as an early performer in Detroit television history.  Around the summer of 1951, a lot of locally produced programs were being run on the television stations based in Detroit, which were WWJ-TV (Channel 4), WXYZ-TV (Channel 7), and WJBK-TV (Channel 2), and some programs were music-based programs.  For those who watched music-based programs on WWJ-TV in the summer of 1951, one of the regularly seen gals on WWJ-TV was Ruth Jane Reid, who at the time was living at 228 Stanhope Road in the Grosse Pointe area.  On Tuesday evenings, Ruth took part in making music on Jim DeLand's television show, and on the show, she was known as "Jane Palmer," and on Thursday evenings, Ruth played "Cactus Jane" on a show called Cactus Jim.  So if you drive by the house 228 Stanhope Road, you are seeing the place were Ruth Jane Reid, an early television celebrity in Detroit, once lived.  [Incidentally, this Cactus Jim was not the show that was shown on NBC-TV in the very late 1940s and very early 1950s, which featured either William Bailey or Clarance Hartzell, or the show that was produced at WOC-TV (Davenport, Iowa) starting in the late 1950s, which featured Bob Allard.)

Oops, I have more!  Several hours before I would post this edition of T.H.A.T., while listening to The Mark Levin Show (a nationally syndicated radio show), I heard on the radio show an audio clip of U.S. Representative Janice Schakowsky (a Democrat related to Illinois), which had been obtained from her appearance on Rachel Maddow's show on MSNBC on Monday, August 8, 2011, by BuzzFeed (an Internet-based entity).  Janice Schakowsky said: "...And my legislation would actually hire--make sure that we can hire--over two-million people at a very reasonable price, all paid for by taxing the, the wealthiest--the millionaires and billionaires--and put them to work doing things that need to be done.  And two to one, Americans say that jobs is a more important issue than debt reduction...."  This statement shows off the thoughts of an "enslavist."  Study the material.  Notice how she would hire people for a "reasonable price."  What is a "reasonable price"?  Who sets the rule of what a "reasonable price" is?  What is the "work" that needs to be done?  Who says that the federal government should determine what work needs to be done?  Every single Democrat lately has been pushing the idea that everything can be made right by taxing the so-called rich more, and if the rich end up having to pay for everything that the Democrats want them to pay for, there comes a point when the so-called rich have nothing, and then where will the money come from?  To Janice Schakowsky, who is a rich person?  What is the starting point for the definition of a rich person?  And Janice Schakowsky might have seen a poll or survey that hinted that "two to one, Americans say that jobs is a more important issue than debt reduction," because the poll or survey was flawed or because many idiots took part in the poll or survey, but I say that increasing the federal debt more and more will help kill jobs over the long run, because the more and more the federal government spends, the more and more that it will have to take in taxes from people who work and from businesses that use revenues to create jobs, and then there comes a point when the economy will crash because of lack of money in the private sector.  Oops!  What you have here is one very unlikable woman--Janice Schakowsky.  Then, again, really, I have shown you two unlikable women and ugly women (based on their minds) on television--Janice Schakowsky and Rachel Maddow.

Remember: The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan was a television show that was produced across the pond and shown on CBS-TV in the late 1960s, and I urge you to find The Prisoner on DVD, maybe from a library, and watch it, and you should show it--all the episodes--to teenagers, or buy it as a present for teenagers.

Stay well!

Vic

P.S. #1: The telephone number of the U.S. Congressional Switchboard is: 1-202-224-3121.  (Use it to fight against the creation of a national-health-care system, especially a system pushed through law by a defective thinker, a man who has created nothing, and a man whose history is mostly filled with tearing things down, a man who continually puts down the U.S.A.--Barack Obama.  By the way, one of the more recent events in which he put down the entire business community of the country took place on Wednesday May 13, 2009, and you should see the second entry for Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in the document entitled Nonsense Statements and Quotations of Barack Obama).

P.S. #2: Do not forget that, since late 2008, I have put within editions of Michigan Travel Tips information about "green technology," "global warming" stuff, and "climate change" stuff, and to get to the catalog for all the Michigan Travel Tips publications, use this link: Travel.
